DeSantis explains why he, not Trump, should be the Republican nominee

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis made his case at the start of the third Republican debate in Miami on Wednesday why he should be the next president of the United States instead of former President Donald Trump.

DeSantis made the comments while taking center stage as the top-polling candidate in the debate and the second-highest polling candidate overall in the primary behind Trump.

“This country is in trouble and the elites who put us here don’t care about you,” DeSantis said. “They don’t care that you have to deal with higher grocery prices or higher gas prices. “They don’t care that their family is less safe because of the open border that allows drugs and even terrorists to enter this country.”

He said he would not sit back and let the United States continue its downward spiral and that he would take the slings and arrows for the American people as he fights to get the country back on track because “it’s not about me.”

“It’s about you. I will fight for you,” he said. “I will make sure I lead the resurgence of this country and I will win for you and your family. Actions speak louder than words. We don’t have time for excuses and it’s not something we can have “All these distractions. As a veteran, I’ll do the job.”

DeSantis argued that the current race was very different from 2016 and that the former president was not the same candidate he was in the past.

“You owe it to him to be on this stage and explain to him why he should get another chance,” DeSantis said. “He should explain why he didn’t make Mexico pay for the border wall. You should explain why you accumulated so much debt. “You should explain why you didn’t drain the swamp.”

“And he said that the Republicans were going to get tired of winning. Well, we saw it last night: I’m sick of Republicans losing,” he concluded. “In Florida, I showed how it’s done. A year ago here, we won a historic victory, including a landslide victory right here in Miami Dade County. That’s how we have to do it. So I promise you this: As a candidate next November, I will do the job, and as president, I will do it for you.”
