BLM Greater NY founder Hawk Newsome arrested while attending NYPD cop’s manslaughter hearing

New York Black Lives Matter leader Hawk Newsome has been arrested after shocking video showed him towering over an NYPD cop while threatening to “beat the s–t” out of him.

An enraged Newsome was cuffed on Tuesday after he showed up to Bronx Criminal Court for the hearing for an NYPD sergeant accused of throwing a cooler and killing a man last summer, CBS reported.

“You think I’m scared of you? I’ll beat the s–t out of you. You must be out of your f–king mind,” Newsome was filmed screaming as he unleashed a torrent of vile abuse at the cop.

“You see how I’m all up on you? You’re a vagina … F–king vagina.”

It wasn’t immediately clear what led to the caught-on-camera ordeal.

A number of cops could be seen trying to de-escalate the situation, a clip posted on social media shows.

At one point, Newsome was filmed grabbing a female cop’s hand and batting it away after the officer apparently tried to move on a woman who was with Newsome.

Newsome was slapped with three summonses for disorderly conduct in the wake of the caught-on-camera saga.

The dramatic ordeal unfolded after a hearing for NYPD Sgt. Erik Duran, who was charged with second-degree manslaughter in the August 2023 death of scooter-riding drug suspect Eric Duprey.

The cop, who has pleaded not guilty, was indicted after tossing the cooler at Duprey as he fled a drug bust in the Bronx, striking him in the head and causing him to crash.

Dozens of uniformed NYPD officers packed the courtroom Tuesday for Duran’s latest hearing.

Footage showed Newsome and other activists consoling Duprey’s sobbing relatives in the wake of the hearing.

Some activists claimed the scuffle broke out when a New York State Court officer approached the group and accused them of hanging out at the courthouse.

“I’m not going to sit here and try and not say I wasn’t vocal. Yes, I was vocal. I care a lot. A man was smashed in the head with a cooler and killed,” Newsome told CBS in the aftermath.

The clip of Newsome spewing abuse at the cop sparked outrage on social media, with Councilwoman Vickie Paladino calling it “beyond absurd.”

“If you are within reach of an officer’s firearm and behaving in an unambiguously hostile and threatening manner like this, you should be tased at the very least,” she tweeted.

“It is beyond absurd that our police have to put up with this. Showing even an ounce of deference to this kind of abject hostility only invites more, and makes the job that much more dangerous.”

Newsome has made headlines in the past for his fired-up rhetoric.

The BLM leader notoriously threatened “riots,” “fire” and “bloodshed” if Mayor Eric Adams cracked down on crime back in 2021.
