Worker crushed to death in NJ recycling center dumpster

A married father of two was crushed to death inside of a dumpster while working at a New Jersey recycling plant, according to police.

Timothy Hannold, 50, of Eagleswood Township, died at the Northern Recycling Center in Lakewood in Ocean County on Wednesday, according to the Lakewood Police Department.

Recycling employees were in the process of moving a large waste container that had just been delivered to the facility, cops said. At some point, Hannold got inside, unbeknownst to other workers.

“Unaware of his presence they continued to try and upright the dumpster causing the doors to shift and pin (Hannold) up against an inside wall,” Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith told NJ.com. “Sadly he did not survive.”

New Jersey’s Department of Labor, which oversees the Public Employees Occupational Safety and Health department, told the outlet that it is investigating the incident.
