Man slammed after unwittingly attempting to correct pro female golfer’s swing: ‘Excuse me’
Footage of a man correcting a woman’s golf swing is going viral online … the catch is that she’s a professional, and he isn’t.
Georgia Ball is a professional golfer and coach, and she posted a video of the moment a man interrupted her while practicing to give her some unwarranted advice.
He started the conversation by saying “excuse me”, and then he launched into how she wasn’t using the proper technique for her swing.
Taking a very longwinded approach, the stranger explained that Ms. Ball was going too slowly on her swing, which was impacting her game.
“What you are doing there … you shouldn’t be doing that,” he advised.
Ms. Ball tried to explain that she was working on a new technique and going through a swing change.
He interrupted again …. to let her know why he knew best.
He told her he’d been playing golf for over two decades and continued to explain that she needed to work on her follow-through.
At no point did Ms. Ball, who has more than 170,000 followers on Instagram and runs a successful golf coaching business, indicate that she wanted or needed his advice.
The golf pro repeated that she was going through a swing change.
He insisted she follow his advice and see the result.
Ms. Ball then explained that she knew she wanted to make it a “good” one and smashed a golf ball as hard as possible.
Her perfect swing was clearly designed to show the man that she knew what she was doing …. which absolutely didn’t work.
The man then promptly took credit for her incredible swing.
“See how much better that was?” he said.
She tried to explain for the second time that she was going through a swing change and that all the best players in the world often try to change their swings and go slower when they are making an adjustment….
He didn’t agree, or simply refused to listen.
The man reiterated that he’d been playing golf for over 20 years and took credit for her swing once again.
Online people have been floored by the man’s audacity; Ms. Ball has built up a cult following online and has amassed over three million likes on TikTok by sharing both tips and tricks, as well as her golfing achievements.
Sure, the man had no idea who she was, but anyone with some eyeballs could conclude she didn’t need help.
Even when her swing was slow, it was obvious that she knew what she was doing.
Someone called the man’s actions textbook “mansplaining.”
Another said he was a man who had never seen “mansplaining” in action before, until now.
Another noticed that the man immediately took “credit” for her swing, and someone else said the man’s behavior was like having the confidence to offer Lewis Hamilton driving tips.
One woman raged about the “nerve” of the man to offer up unsolicited advice to a professional, and someone else called it “awkward.”
Another said the video was “embarrassing” for the man, and someone else commented it was an example of a man behaving oddly because his “ego” was hurt.
“OMG. The way he cuts you off. The way he took credit for your swing and the way you strike the ball. Absolutely not … Props to you for laughing it off, I probably wouldn’t have been as nice,” one follower commented on Instagram.
“So glad you posted this because it is my BIGGEST frustration when I’m at the driving range. Unfortunately, men always feel the need to comment on my swing or want to coach me. Guys take note: Please don’t,” another female golfer shared.
The one thing everyone could agree on is that this woman did not need advice from a man on how to play golf.
