A House Republican leader said Sunday that he expects the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden to be extended into next year, when Biden runs for re-election.
Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo that he believes investigators will continue gathering evidence through the end of December and will make a decision on how to proceed in early 2024.
“I think we’ll do the depositions and the interviews in this calendar year and then make a decision early next year if … the actual evidence justifies moving on to the articles of impeachment and moving on to that stage of the investigation,” Jordan said. during an interview. in “Sunday Morning Futures,” alluding to a new wave of subpoenas and requests for transcribed interviews.
“But I think this year, November and December, we will remove all these people that we have yet to remove, and then we can make a decision,” he added.
The impeachment inquiry, looking into whether the Biden family’s business practices have fueled corruption in the government, formally began in mid-September. Biden and his allies insist that the president has committed no crime and claim that the investigation is tainted by politics.

Initially, then-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) put House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) in charge, saying Jordan and Ways and Means Chairman , Jason Smith (R-MO), would help with the task. Comer said last weekend on Bartiromo’s show that Biden should be impeached, but emphasized: “That will be up to the president.”
The new chairman who replaced McCarthy, Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA), recently told reporters that he would not “predetermine” an outcome. “But I do think that very soon we will reach a decision point on this,” Johnson said, adding that the investigation phase of the impeachment is an “important step” in ensuring due process.
Jordan’s panel has been investigating the Justice Department’s criminal investigation into Hunter Biden, the president’s son, amid concerns raised by whistleblowers that the investigation has been delayed in a way that has prevented serious charges from being brought.
The Judiciary chairman repeatedly stressed that House Republicans are “fact-driven,” seeking to draw a contrast with Democrats and their impeachment investigations into former President Donald Trump, which he described as politically motivated.
