Hundreds of frozen waffles recalled due to listeria risk — here’s the full list

Hundreds of frozen waffle products sold at major grocery stores and retailers have been recalled due to risk of listeria contamination, according to their food manufacturer.

TreeHouse Foods, a food processing company based in Oak Brook, Illinois, recalled the waffles on Friday and said the “issue was discovered through routine testing at the manufacturing facility.”

There are no known illnesses linked to the potential outbreak, TreeHouse said on Friday.

The recalled waffles – including popular brands like Best Choice, Target’s Good & Gather and Walmart’s Great Value – were distributed throughout the United States and Canada, the manufacturer said.

Consumers may have some of the recalled products sitting in their freezers.

Food products usually have barcodes on their packaging that indicate when they were produced and on which factory line the food was produced. TreeHouse Foods recommends customers check their freezers for frozen waffle products and search for the affected product codes listed on their website.

Listeria is a serious infection, posing the largest risk to older adults, immunodeficient people and pregnant women, according to the United States Department of Agriculture. It can cause fever, aches, headaches, stiffness, confusion, loss of balance, convulsions and diarrhea, the agency said.

The bacteria has an incubation period of three to 70 days, according to experts.

TreeHouse Foods did not respond to requests for further comment.

The waffle recall comes soon after BrucePac, a major meatpacker, recalled nearly 12 million pounds of meat – some of which was sent to New York school cafeterias.

Meanwhile, the USDA is conducting an internal investigation about its handling of Boar’s Head after the name brand recalled more than 7 million pounds of cold cuts in July due to listeria contamination.

At least 10 people died and dozens were hospitalized due to the illness.

Boar’s Head had operated a dirty, bug-infested meat factory and racked up dozens of health and safety violations over the years.
