Elon Musk biopic to be directed by Darren Aronofsky: source
An Elon Musk biopic is in the works at New York-based studio A24, with “Black Swan” filmmaker Darren Aronofsky directing, according to a source familiar with the matter.
A24 has secured the rights to Walter Isaacson’s biography of the world’s richest person, according to the source, who added that the Musk biopic will be produced by Aronofsky’s production company, Protozoa Pictures.
“I’m glad Darren is doing it. He is one of the best,” Musk said in an X post on Friday.
The studio previously worked with the director to produce his film “The Whale,” starring Brendan Fraser, which won the Academy Award for Best Actor and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
A24 earned 18 Academy Award nominations across six films this year, ranking second only to entertainment giant Walt Disney.
Isaacson’s book about Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was made into a film of the same name by Universal in 2015 with Irish actor Michael Fassbender playing the late tech mogul.
The book about Musk was published in September by the powerful book publisher Simon & Schuster, owned by the private equity firm KKR.
The deal was highly competitive and major studios and filmmakers were also in contention, the source told Reuters.
Musk, who is the head of rocket maker and satellite communications company SpaceX, also runs the world’s most valuable automaker, Tesla, and runs tunnel builder The Boring Company and brain chip company Neuralink.
The billionaire bought social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, last year for $44 billion after a six-month saga.
