Chappell Roan didn’t hold back with a photographer at the premiere of Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts.
Chappell, 26, recognized the photographer from a previous event, and the “Pink Pony Club” singer called the person out for being rude to her. All of it went down as Chappell walked the red carpet for the premiere of Guts. In a video circulating on social media, Chappell was happily taking pictures before she stopped and pointed at one of the members of the paparazzi.
“You were so disrespectful to me at the Grammys,” Chappel said after walking over to the person in question. “You yelled at me at the Grammy party, at the Universal after-party. I remember. You were so rude to me. I deserve an apology for that. Yeah. Yep, you do. No, no, no. You need to apologize.”
One of the “Hot to Go” artist’s assistants was then seen pulling Chappell away.
Social media users were divided on their feelings when it came to Chappell confronting the photographer with some saying her response was valid while others claimed that it was uncalled for.
“They will never make me like you Chappell Roan,” wrote one person in the comments section on TikTok.
Another added, “‘Quick! How can I make this about me?’ -Chappell Roan probably.”
However, she had plenty of fans defending her.
“Everyone complains because she sets totally valid limits, the paparazzi are always really mean with artists as if the artist did not deserve respect,” a separate person chimed in.
One thing is for certain, and it’s that Chappell has no problem speaking her mind, especially when it comes to the boundaries she sets for herself regarding overenthusiastic fans. In August she addressed the amount of attention she’s gotten since she rose to fame and the aspects that have made her uncomfortable.
“For the past 10 years I’ve been going nonstop to build my project, and it’s come to the point that I need to draw lines and set boundaries,” Chappell wrote in a post shared on Instagram on August 23. “I want to be an artist for a very, very long time. I’ve been in too many nonconsensual physical and social interactions, and I just need to lay it out and remind you, women don’t owe you s–t. I chose this career path because I love music and art and honoring my inner child. I do not accept harassment of any kind because I chose this path, nor do I deserve it.”
Chappell’s Guts moment wasn’t the first time the Missouri native has gotten heated with a member of the paparazzi. At the MTV Video Music Awards on September 11, a photographer could be heard yelling “Shut the f–k up” to the crowd. Although it was unclear just who the comment was directed at, Chappell clapped back.
“You shut the f–k up!” the “Femininomenon” singer shouted back before adding, “No. Not me, bitch.”
The dustup didn’t seem to faze Chappell, and she calmly returned to posing for photos on the red carpet. Fans rallied around the “Good Luck, Babe!” artist and showed their support for her on social media.
“The fact that people are annoyed at Chappell for not just standing there and letting someone be rude to her is INSANE. the world needs more pop stars/celebs that will put people in their places,” one person wrote via X.
