Woman, 69, punched in apparently random attack on Upper East Side
A 69-year-old woman was socked in the face in an apparently unprovoked broad-daylight attack on the Upper East Side, cops say.
The victim was walking on Lexington Avenue near East 83rd Street around 12:50 p.m. May 7 when a stranger suddenly slugged her, police said.
She was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital, where she was treated for bruising, swelling and pain, authorities said.
The still-at-large attacker – who had a bald head and wore glasses and a mask – is shown walking on the sidewalk in NYPD surveillance footage released late Monday.
He is also seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue pants and black sneakers and carrying a backpack.
The attack happened the day before a homeless assailant punched “Boardwalk Empire” actor Steve Buscemi, 66, in the eye in a random daytime attack in Kips Bay in Manhattan.
Suspect Clifton Williams, 50, was hit with a felony count of second-degree assault because Buscemi is over 65.
He was sent to jail on $50,000 cash bail at his arraignment Saturday, court records show.
In another more recent unprovoked attack, a brute randomly kicked a 79-year-old man in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens, Brooklyn, last week — knocking him unconscious and critically injuring him, authorities said.
