A teenager lost his life after being brutally beaten by 15 people near a high school in Las Vegas, according to his father.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officers responded to an assault call near Rancho High School on Nov. 1.
KVVU-TV reported that police found a student who was “beaten and bleeding from the head.” The teen was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition and then placed on life support. However, the teenager died last Tuesday at University Medical Center, according to the boy’s father.
Jonathan Lewis Sr. said his 17-year-old son, Jonathan Lewis Jr., died after being beaten by 15 people.
A video of the brutal attack surfaced on social media last week, showing the teenager being brutally beaten as he tried to flee.
Lewis Sr. said he believes the deadly attack began after “Jonathan defended one of his younger friends,” according to the Las Vegas Magazine.
“A couple (of people) attacked him, and they couldn’t hurt him enough, and they all attacked him at the same time,” the father said.
Fox News reported that the homicide unit of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the case. However, no arrests have been made so far.
According KLAS-TV“Lewis also said investigators told the family they planned to charge several students involved in that fight with murder.”
The father said: “We are all trying to process this. The whole family is in shock.”
The father told the outlet: “I think all of humanity does not recognize that we must teach our young people how to coexist.”
The father told KVVU-TV that the fatal physical assault was a “horrible tragedy that reflects the divisive, conflict-based and indifferent state our society and humanity currently faces regarding the way we interact with our community.”
“Empathy and love are a great strength and cowardly violence is pathetic,” the father added. “A true warrior would never cowardly defeat a person just because the two or three members of the group could not defeat a warrior, a true warrior would let others learn and grow.”
The teenager’s father said that his family denounces violence “as a means to generate sociological conflicts.” He said the family believes that caring, respectful, compassionate and caring people are the “great strength of the community and emphasizes that those are the values taught by our family’s warriors.”
Lewis Sr. remembered his son as a “loving, generous, kind and fierce young man who loved the community and cared about others.”
The father said his son was an aspiring artist who was considering joining the military like his grandfather, who served in the U.S. Navy.
The father revealed: “I hope that there is a way that they can find forgiveness in their hearts and find a way that they can accept what they have done. I love my children with all my heart, and it is just unimaginable.” that we could ever get to this point.”
