Two New York State patrol cars hit by drunk driver while troopers investigated another drunk driver
Troopers in two New York State Police patrol cars were struck by a drunk driver —- while they were investigating another drunk driving incident.
At midnight Friday, troopers were conducting an investigation into a 2018 GMC Arcadia that struck a Department of Transportation light tower in a work zone, according to a release.
The troopers were in their respective patrol cars on the Southern State Parkway Eastbound near the exits for the Babylon, when one parked car was struck from behind by a gray 2004 Toyota Rav 4.
That first car was then launched into the other patrol car that was parked to its front.
The troopers rushed to the aid of the civilians involved in the accident, only to realize after that they themselves had suffered some minor injuries.
All parties were transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries, according to the release.
Jaikaran Ramrookum, 73, is being charged with Driving Under the Influence.
Jared Robinson, 32, who caused the initial stop, was also found to be driving under the influence, though it is not clear what charges he incurred.
