Trump Calls Border Bill ‘Trap’ For Republicans: ‘Don’t Be Stupid!’

Former President Donald Trump slammed the Senate’s bipartisan border bill on Monday, calling it a “trap” set by Democrats for Republicans.

Senators released the final version of a long-awaited border bill on Sunday afternoon. The bill will likely face a full Senate vote soon, but it is unclear whether it will pass, especially as it continues to bleed Republican support.

“Only a fool, or a Radical Left Democrat, would vote for this horrendous Border Bill, which only gives Shutdown Authority after 5000 Encounters a day, when we already have the right to CLOSE THE BORDER NOW, which must be done,” Trump posted on Truth Social on Monday morning.

“This Bill is a great gift to the Democrats, and a Death Wish for The Republican Party,” Trump continued. “It takes the HORRIBLE JOB the Democrats have done on Immigration and the Border, absolves them, and puts it all squarely on the shoulders of Republicans. Don’t be STUPID!!!”

The former president said Republicans need a separate border bill that is not “tied to foreign aid in any way, shape, or form,” saying Democrats “broke Immigration and the Border. They should fix it.”

Trump posted again later Monday morning, saying the “ridiculous” border bill is “nothing more than a highly sophisticated trap for Republicans to assume the blame on what the Radical Left Democrats have done to our Border, just in time for our most important EVER Election. Don’t fall for it!!!”

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said the bill will have its first procedural vote on the floor on Wednesday.

However, some Republicans have already said they will not support it.

The $118 billion deal would tighten asylum requirements, shut down the southern border if immigrant encounters hit certain levels, and send billions of dollars to not only the border but Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.

The bill faces an uphill battle in the Senate, with several conservative senators already casting doubt on whether they will support it.

“This is an open-borders bill if I’ve ever seen one. The Democrats are celebrating already,” Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) said on X.

Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) said she will “never vote to make illegal immigration legal, and I will not support this deal.”

The two top Republicans in the House both said the bill is a non-starter in the lower chamber.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said the bill is “dead on arrival” in the House and called it “even worse than we expected.”

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) also slammed the bill, vowing it will not receive a vote in the House and calling it “a magnet for more illegal immigration.”
