Thune calls for Secret Service reform
Sen. John Thune is calling for Secret Service reform after the assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump.
Thune made the comments on the floor of the Senate Wednesday, saying change is a long time coming.
“I have no doubt that there are many dedicated agents serving there, including those who heroically dived to cover President Trump when the shooting started, but the fact is that the Secret Service has been beset by problems for a number of years now, including staffing issues and a number of previous security failures,” Thune said.
This comes after the resignation of Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle earlier this week. Thune called the move “appropriate.”
