“They deserve a life sentence in prison”
We know the struggle all too well: being in the last group to board, only to be forced to check your compact carry-on because someone decided to put their jacket in the overhead compartment.
In fact, where you put your luggage and personal items says a lot about you as a traveler, argued one TikToker.
“The easiest way to tell if someone is a good person at an airport is [to] see where they put their luggage when they get on a plane,” said content creator Daniel Bennet on a clip which got 6 million views.
“If they put their carry-on luggage in the overhead compartment and put their personal items, like their backpack or purse, under the seat, they are a good person and aware of their surroundings.”
However, if travelers use the overhead bins for personal belongings or a jacket, “they are the worst kind of person and deserve a life-long prison sentence,” he said.
In the comments, viewers debated proper airplane etiquette, a hot topic online that has sparked numerous raucous discussions about topics like changing seats or reclining in your chair.
“Honestly. The worst thing is the people who put their jackets in the overhead compartments,” lamented one user.
“I’ve seen flight attendants call people about this and it makes me SO JOY,” another chimed in.
“Nothing makes me SEE more than a small object on a roof,” someone else agreed.
“I recently saw a man put his carry-on luggage, backpack, jacket, flannel and hat on the roof,” another complained. “Brother was moving.”
But not everyone agreed, with some saying they threw their small items into the bin to make room for their legs.
“Unpopular opinion, but they only have a backpack (without a carry-on suitcase) that they can throw in the trash. In theory everyone gets a bag on top regardless [sic]“, one person argued.
“I always check my wheeled bag. “I put my backpack on the roof so I have room for my legs,” someone else commented. “It’s not my fault people bring everything on board.”
Other TikTokers expressed their own travel-related annoyances, such as the rush to get on and off the plane.
“OOOO: When planes land and someone behind you tries to get in front of you?!?! WHAAAAA!”
