Sick silence on Iran and more: Letters

Sick silence on Iran
The silence is deafening; thousands and thousands of innocent men, women and children are being slaughtered in Iran (“36K ‘slain’ in protest crackdown,” Jan. 26).
Hundreds of thousands have been injured. The daily horrific inhumanity is world news, and yet not one group on college campuses, in Hollywood or on the streets of US cities seem to be outraged.
Why are they not vehemently protesting to save innocent people in Iran and stop the massacres? For that matter, has the United Nations gone totally deaf, dumb and blind?

All hostages home
At last, Ran Gvili is home — Rest in peace (“The last hostage home,” Jan. 27).
Now, the root cause of Hamas’ ability to do what they did to him and so many others on Oct. 7 must now be eradicated: the Jew-hating, Western-hating rulers of Iran.

Zo’s uphill battle
Joe Borelli is spot on regarding property tax inequities in New York City (“Mamdani’s Mountain,” Postscript Jan. 25).
For years now, small homeowners in the “outer boroughs” have been paying much more in property taxes than owners of far more valuable residential properties in upscale neighborhoods.
Since Mayor Mamdani owes his election in large part to the strong support he has received from these progressive enclaves, I’m skeptical he will do more to rock the boat than his predecessors over a property tax system that has favored the wealthy over the working class for many years now, his Marxist credentials notwithstanding.

Trump’s tax refund
As regards “Big beautiful refund” (Jan. 28), I think some taxpayers will be left scratching their head saying, “I thought I was getting a bigger refund, what did all this tax magic do for me?”
If you had less money withheld from your paycheck in 2025 in expectation of a tax cut, you could find yourself owing more this tax season than last year.
John Q. Taxpayer should beware the smoke and mirrors presented by the man behind the curtain sitting in the White House.

Ken Jennings’ TDS
A little nonsense from the actress of “Parent Trap” saying “What the hell” on Jeopardy! is nothing compared to the vile rhetoric host Ken Jennings has spouted about President Trump (“Trouble ‘Jeopardy!’ ” Jan. 28).
His half-ass mea culpas about everything he has said about conservatives and Trump is phony as he is. I, for one, will never watch Jeopardy! again, sadly, but tuning out these spineless idiots is easy.

Hateful nurses
We are witnessing both a sad and scary day in America when there are health-care professionals who may intentionally hinder our treatment due to differences in political opinion, race, religion or otherwise (“Nursing hate on the left,” Kirsten Fleming, Jan. 27).
Let’s hope the nurse who said she hopes Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt suffers medical complications during childbirth has her nursing licence revoked. Her intentions surely can’t be trusted.
