Ryan Gosling is headed back to the top of the box office! The beloved actor gained a new fanbase from a galaxy far, far, away when it was announced he would star in the upcoming film Star Wars: Starfighter.

Ryan Gosling Confirmed as ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ Lead
Shawn Levy, who will direct the film, had the crowd at Star Wars Celebration Japan roaring when he addressed chatter surrounding the potential cast and storyline of Star Wars: Starfighter.
“One of those rumors, that I need to dispel, is that my movie was going to star Ryan Gosling,” Shawn said into the mic on stage. “Believe me, that would be a dream come true for me. So, today, I just wanted to tell you here in this room that that rumor is 100 percent true.”
Smoke fog filled the stage behind the Stranger Things director, which set the stage for Ryan’s surprise appearance. The Barbie star, who was greeted by a massive outroar by fans, looked fashionable in his casual attire.
Ryan donned light wash jeans and an off-white T-Shirt that was leveled up by a chic white cropped jacket and combat-esque shoes. The Oscar-nominated actor completed the look with his navy blue “Never Tell Me The Odds” hat, paying homage to Harrison Ford’s character, Han Solo, in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.
Ryan and Harrison became good pals after starring in Blade Runner 2049 in 2017.
The audience cheered long enough for Ryan to greet his colleagues on stage before they stood next to one another and soaked in the epic moment.
Ryan’s mother, Donna Gosling, sent her love by sending in a major throwback photo.
“This is a picture that my mom sent of my bed sheets when I was 5. Yes, she still has them, obviously,” Ryan shyly said while charming the audience. “Naturally, she thought it might be something that the fans would abbreviate but, I suspect that she just sort of wants to justify years of hoarding.”
What Is ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ About?
The film will take place roughly six years after Star Wars: Episode Nine.
“Starfighter is not a sequel, it’s not a prequel, it’s a new standalone adventure with new characters taking place in a new time period,” Shawn told MuseTV alongside Ryan.
“Like Ryan said earlier, it formed my idea of what movies really are, and it’s not just that these movies gave me movie memories – they gave me life memories,” the Deadpool & Wolverine producer later continued. “They literally taught me a cinematic language, a storytelling language that I reference constantly. So, it’s a little bit surreal to now get to do it ourselves.”
Ryan, for his part, teased that Star Wars: Starfighter is full of “heart,” “humor” and “adventure.”
Other than knowledge of the timeline, details of the storyline have remained in the vault.
