Progressives demanding NYC fight ICE are at war with reality

City progressives are apoplectic that Mayor Eric Adams refuses to go to war with the feds in defense of violent illegal-migrant criminals.

“This is about fear and chaos,” moaned state Sen. (and mayoral challenger) Zellnor Myrie at a Thursday rally outside Kings Hospital, denouncing a memo advising city public-hospital staff not to put themselves in harm’s way should ICE agents come knocking.

Legal Aid Society lawyer Kathllen Klift called the memo “deeply alarming.”

“Why are we here at a hospital? Churches were safe havens, schools were safe havens. Those safety nets were taken away,” bleated City Councilwoman Rita Joseph (D-Brooklyn).

Reality check: It’s a federal crime to intentionally conceal, harbor or shield from detection a person who is in the United States unlawfully.

That the Biden crew had no desire to seek out any of them doesn’t grant some magic immunity now.

Nor are feds looking to do sweeping raids of schools, hospitals or any other public facility.

They’re going after “asylum seekers” who’ve harmed innocents — in a sane world, every city official would be doing everything possible to help.

But the de Blasio-era “sanctuary” law forbids that — ironically making what the progs claim to fear even more likely, that is that the feds will wind up arresting other migrants because they don’t get help in targeting the bad guys.

Of course, Gotham’s loony left can only think about one enemy: “I am particularly disappointed that we have a mayor who is more of an assistant to Donald Trump than a mayor for New York City,” tweeted Public Advocate Jumaane Williams.

Williams also accused Adams of displaying a “lack of leadership” that is “harming” city communities.

No, he’s protecting them as best the sanctuary law allows: instructing city workers to avoid conflict with ICE.

In the face of a Justice Department memo warning that local officials are bound to cooperate with immigration enforcement and could face criminal prosecution if they instead interfere, what else should he do?

More important: Williams, Myrie and the rest of the bleating progressive class are out-of-step with the vast majority of New Yorkers who want illegal-migrant baddies rounded up and removed from the city.

The “fear and chaos” is coming from extremists who can’t or won’t pull their heads far enough out of their ideological fever dreams to recognize simple reality.
