Police hunting for woman who entered Niagara River near falls

New York State Police are searching for a missing woman who intentionally entered the Niagara River above the iconic falls — just a week after a mother threw herself and her two children over the ledge.

Several witnesses reported seeing the mystery woman in the water on Goat Island just above Horseshoe Falls — the largest of the three waterfalls that collectively make up Niagara Falls — around 2 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

“An immediate search of the area commenced using Park Police drone, foot searches of the gorge, and visual searches from overlooks,” state police told WGRZ in a statement.

Park Police then contacted New York State Police Aviation for assistance in searching the lower Niagara River.

The Post has reached out to state police for additional information.

Last Monday in the same area, New York mother Chianti Means, 33, stepped over the guardrail at Luna Park, a small area near the crest of the falls, and intentionally jumped 200 feet into the water with her two children, ages 9 and 5-months old.

Means, a domestic violence counselor from Niagara Falls, had been suffering from post-partum depression, family members told The Post.

All three have been declared dead but their bodies have not yet been recovered.

In 2023, another mother jumped with her 5-year-old son into the Niagara Gorge, just down river from the falls.

That mother died in the fall, but rescuers were able to save the boy.
