No arrests yet after four people shot and one dead in Sioux Falls
One person is dead and three others are hospitalized with gunshot wounds after a shooting at Dunham Park. Police said on Monday that they have not made any arrests yet.
Around 4:21 p.m. on August 25, police received several calls from Dunham Park in the 1300 block of South Marion Road reporting gunshots.
Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said a large gathering occurred at the farthest west end of a parking lot in the park.
Police believe these people knew each other, but do not know why the gathering occurred.
Something occurred within the group, and that’s when shots were fired.
Joshau Antrell Allen Jr., 29, of Sioux Falls died from multiple gunshot wounds on the scene.
Three other gunshot victims were transported to a local hospital by personal acquaintances.
Avera McKennan Hospital confirmed they went into a lockdown around 5:10 p.m. on Sunday.
This includes a 27-year-old man from Sioux Falls who was hit several times in the leg and torso, a 40-year-old Sioux Falls man who was shot in the face and a 26-year-old Sioux Falls man who was shot in the shoulder.
The victims are still currently hospitalized, which puts delays on the Sioux Falls Police Department’s investigation of the case.
Clemens did not disclose whether or not the SFPD has the weapon used.
Handgun shell casings were found on the scene. Some of these casings were 9 mm and some were other categories. This indicates different guns were involved.
Police do not know how many total guns or shooters were involved in the incident.
Dunham Park remains closed. They expect the park to possibly open Monday evening, but there is no set time frame.
