Nicolas Cage Refuses to ‘Turn His Back’ on Son Weston (EXCL)

Nicolas Cage’s son Weston struck a plea deal to avoid jail after his mother, Christina Fulton, accused him of a brutal assault on her and a source exclusively tells In Touch his screen icon dad has decided to stick by him no matter what, while trying to help him learn from his mistakes and get the help he needs.
“The damage he did to his mother is absolutely horrible, no one is denying that, but Nic isn’t going to turn his back on Weston over it, in his view his son was sick with a mental illness. He knows his boy and says he would never have done this otherwise.”
During a reported mental health crisis on April 28, 2024, Weston, a 34-year-old musician, allegedly escalated an argument between him and his mom, 57, after she was alerted by his friends he was breaking down in a manic state.
“When I arrived to offer support and console him, he was already in the midst of a manic rage. Within minutes, I was brutally assaulted and sustained serious injuries,” she claimed. Weston pleaded not guilty and on April 2, 2025, a judge ordered him to attend a two-year mental health diversion program to resolve two felony assault charges, which will be dismissed in April 2027 if he “stays out of trouble” and follows the doctors’ demands.
The source adds that Nic, 61, who has supported his son’s struggles with mental illness over the years, is “so relieved that Weston won’t be getting locked up over this because he’s got no doubts that would only make things worse for him.”
The court agreed that jail wouldn’t benefit Weston. “Mr. Cage does suffer from an eligible mental health disorder. I’m satisfied it was a significant factor in the commission of the charged offenses,” Los Angeles County Judge Enrique Monguia stated. “It’s obvious he was suffering a breakdown at the time.”
Mom Christina also supported the diversion program in lieu of jail time, telling the court, “I stand here, pleading for one thing: that he gets the help he deserves. Please help my son.”
For their part as parents, the insider believes Nic and Christina have tried to do their best. “It’s not like they’ve just ignored this or tried to skate past it, Weston has done intensive in-patient and out-patient treatment and Nic fully believes it’s helped reform him and get his mental health issues under control.”
“People can judge him all they want, but Nic feels his son needs his support now more than ever, that’s why he did everything in his power to get Weston help and he feels that the judge made the right choice by sparing him jail time.”
“Weston has been very remorseful over the incident, and Nic one hundred percent believes him, and believes that nothing like this will ever happen again. His focus now is on helping Weston move forward and just doing all he can to be a good influence on him,” the source adds.
“Weston has always idolized Nic, his dad has always been the one that can get through to him, even in the worst of times, so everyone is hoping that he will follow Nic’s guidance and stay on a better path from here on out.”
