Kellie Pickler Pleads For Deposition to Be Sealed in Fight With In-Laws
Kellie Pickler will be questioned under oath by her late husband Kyle Jacob’s parents as their court battle over his property turns ugly, In Touch can exclusively report.
According to court documents obtained by In Touch, Kyle’s parents, Reed and Sharon Jacobs, notified Kellie, 38, that they planned to depose her as part of the recent petition she filed in court.
Kellie rushed to court days before the scheduled deposition. She claimed her in-laws were refusing to agree to terms of a protective order that would prevent the transcript of videotape of her deposition from being released to third parties.
The singer feared the transcript would be released to people not involved in the case.
At a hearing, the court ordered Kellie’s deposition to move forward as scheduled.
The judge did enter an interim protective order that prohibits each side from disseminating the transcript of video of Kellie’s deposition “pending further orders of the court.”
The court battle is ongoing.
As In Touch first reported, the former American Idol contestant filed a court case asking for a judge to decide on who has the right to certain items left behind by Kyle.
Kellie and Kyle started dating in 2008 and wed in 2011. Kyle died in February 2023 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was 49. Kellie declined to serve as administrator of Kyle’s estate.
Reed and Sharon were then appointed as coadministrators.
In her recent petition, Kellie told the court that a “dispute has arisen amongst the parties regarding certain personal property allegedly [Kyle’s] possession prior to his death.”
The country star said that Reed and Sharon sent her a document titled ‘List of Assets.’
She said her in-laws demanded she produce the property listed on the list via a subpoena.
Kellie’s lawyer said, “Included in the List of Assets are items that [Kellie] either does not have in her possession or over which right, title and possession are disputed.”
As In Touch previously reported, Reed and Sharon’s list includes Kyle’s extensive gun collection, swords, luxury watches, musical equipment, baseball cards, and even a Steinway Grand Model M piano.
Reed and Sharon’s list also asked for Kyle’s work laptop, iPhone and hard drives.
In addition, Kellie said that Reed and Sharon entered her home and obtained items owned by Kyle after his death. She said her in-laws have yet to provide her a list of the items taken on the day in question.
The entertainer asked that the court hear both sides and determine who is the rightful owner of each item.
Reed and Sharon fired back at the petition. Kyle’s parents accused Kellie of being in violation of the subpoena that they issued as part of the probate case.
In addition, they denied Kellie’s claim that she didn’t know where the property was or that she disputed who the rightful owner was to the items.
A lawyer for Reed and Sharon wrote, “[Kellie] and her counsel have provided conflicting information regarding the location and rightful possession of the items listed and, as set forth hereinabove, have admitted [Kellie] is in possession of several items of property of [Kyle].”
Regarding the visit to Kelle’s home, Reed and Sharon said Kellie had invited them. They said she had items for them to take that she had set aside.
Kyle’s parents said they didn’t create a list of items because Kellie was fully aware of which items they took — since she was the one who asked them to come over and had put the items in a pile for them.
In their filing, Kyle’s parents noted they had Kyle and Kellie’s prenup, which laid of ownership of their property.
As In Touch previously reported, Kyle died inside the Tennessee home he lived in with Kellie. The singer was home at the time but in a separate room. The autopsy report revealed Kyle did not have drugs in his system but had a history of “pseudoseizures, gastrointestinal bleeding, elevated liver enzymes, and chronic alcohol use.” Kyle was a successful songwriter who worked with Garth Brooks, Trace Adkins, Tim McGraw, Kelly Clarkson and many other superstars.
