Jaime King’s Ex Awarded Primary Custody After ‘Strung Out’ Accusations

Jaime King’s ex-husband, Kyle Newman, was awarded primary custody after he accused her of being neglectful and “strung out” during time with their sons, In Touch can exclusively report.

According to court documents obtained by In Touch, Jaime and Kyle attended a mediation on March 7 as part of their bitter divorce battle.

Per the documents, Jaime and Kyle worked out a deal at the Dependency Court at Los Angeles Superior Court.

Jaime and Kyle were married from 2007 to 2020. They share two sons: James Knight and Leo Thames. The new deal states Kyle was awarded primary custody of the children, and he will share joint legal custody with Jaime.

Jaime will have supervised visitation three days a week.

Jaime will have two hours with the kids on two days and four hours with them on the third day.

The agreement lists nine people that Jaime can use as a supervisor.

Kyle did not agree to one of the supervisors being Jaime’s partner, Austin Sosa, but said he would reconsider it. They agreed that Jaime’s visitations “must remain supervised until ordered unsupervised by” the court.

She can have FaceTime calls with her sons on non-visitation days for “no longer than 20 minutes.”

Both parents agreed not to trash talk the other in front of their kids or put the kids in the middle of their arguments. The exes also added a provision to accommodate Jaime’s work schedule.

The agreement also had a provision that said Jaime will have only supervised visitation until she completes a six-month drug/alcohol program with weekly testing, after care and the 12-step program.

In addition, she will have to complete a 26-week parenting program and counseling.

As In Touch first reported, last year, Kyle filed a petition for a restraining order against Jaime and demanded sole custody of their children.

In his filing, Kyle wrote, “The children are currently in danger when in their mother’s care. Jaime King is suffering from drug and alcohol addiction and is emotionally abusing and neglecting our children; placing them in danger and exposing them to many disturbing people and situations, including sexual content. The children are begging me to help rescue them from the chaos in their mother’s home.”

He claimed he got a call from his sons on October 17, 2024, begging him to pick them up from Jaime’s home.

“I arrived [at] Jaime’s house around 7:45 a.m. I knocked on the door and was greeted by the boys. I went inside and I saw Jaime sitting on her knees on the floor, wearing a navy blue and white varsity, her hair was in pigtails and she appeared to not be wearing any pants (or maybe had short shorts on). There were two men there.”

He continued, “Jaime looked distressed, strung out and was acting drunk. She gestured for me to come over to her because she tried to get up but could not stand. Jaime was slurring her words and said, ‘Those are bad boys.’ We have to do something about our boys. Their behavior is not right.’”

Kyle said he took the boys and left the home.

Kyle added, “Jaime loves our children, and we want her to get help — I am, however, unable to force her to get help and cannot allow our children to be in a constant state of danger and abuse as a result of Jaime’s addiction issues.”

He continued, “Without strong orders, I am afraid that Jaime will continue to game the system — she has been sanctioned twice by two different judges in our family law matter and refuses to follow court orders, like the judgment that requires her to not be intoxicated when the children are in her custody.”

Jaime, via her lawyer, denied the accusations.

The actress’ lawyer, Diana D. Hagopian, previously told In Touch, “Mr. Newman’s [previous] ex parte requests have been denied in their entirety by the court.”

“The allegations against Jaime are entirely false and intended to cause her harm and garner damaging media attention,” Diana added.

Diana said, “It is unfortunate that Mr. Newman continues to utilize the court in attempt to continue … the filing of unfounded malicious claims and to use the children as weapons and pawns without regard to their privacy.” She ended, “Jaime is intent and solely focused on a peaceful and harmonious coparenting process and her utmost priority is the happiness, health, and well-being of their children.”

Kyle’s lawyer, Garry Gekht, previously told In Touch, “Kyle’s only wish is that Jaime finally gets the help she needs to that she can be a safe, healthy and appropriate parent to the parties’ children, and again asks for privacy, both from the media and from Jaime and her new attorney, for the sake of the children who continue to be in his exclusive care and remain his sole focus.”
