Jaime King Fought ‘Unfounded’ Claims She Used Drugs While Pregnant

Jaime King’s ex-husband, Kyle Newman, accused her of being addicted to opiates for years — and and even claimed she was drinking and using drugs during one of her pregnancies — years before he was awarded primary custody, In Touch can exclusively report.

The bombshell accusations were made by Kyle, 49, in an emotional declaration, obtained by In Touch, filed in May 2020 as part of the exes’ divorce. He detailed Jaime’s alleged drug problems, and failed interventions attempts.

Jaime denied Kyle’s claims of substance abuse. In a court declaration, at the time, she told the judge, “I do not have an alcohol or substance abuse problem nor did I at the time.” Jaime also accused Kyle of being abusive during their marriage, which he denied.

As In Touch first reported, earlier this month, Kyle was awarded primary physical custody of the two sons he shares with Jaime: James Knight and Leo Thames.

Jaime, 45, will have supervised visitation three days a week. The custody deal was reached by the exes during mediation.

The agreement stated Jaime will only have supervised visitation until she completes a six-month drug/alcohol program with weekly testing, after care and the 12-step program, along with a 26-week parenting program and counseling.

The decision to award Kyle primary custody came after he accused the actress of being “strung out” while caring for the kids in late 2024.

He claimed he had serious concerns about Jaime’s ability to parent. Jaime and Kyle were married from 2007. The actress filed for divorce in 2020.

She also filed for a restraining order claiming Kyle had moved $300,000 in cash from her bank and removed valuables from their home safe, which he denied.

She claimed Kyle took their kids to Pennsylvania and told her they would be there for a long time. The actress accused Kyle of “domestic abuse” and claimed he “terrorized” her in front of their boys.

She claimed he called her a “cum guzzling whore” in front of the kids. Jaime claimed she experienced a “pattern of abuse for nearly six years” at the hands of Kyle.

Jaime also claimed to be “terrified” of Kyle due to his alleged surveillance of her. She claimed Kyle had taunted her, relayed private information such as who has been in her home and telling “her that he continues to surveil and stalk he even while across the country.”

“I believe that [Kyle] will retaliate against me. He will make many false allegations about me as he has done in the past in order to isolate me from our friends. [Kyle] has repeatedly threatened me that he will ruin me, he will ruin my career, and will smear me in the press,” she said.

She accused Kyle of making her friends believe she had issues with drugs.

She said, “I do not have an alcohol or substance abuse problem nor did I at the time.”

In his May 2020 declaration, Kyle called Jaime a “chronic drug addict and alcoholic who refuses to acknowledge that she has a problem, let alone seek meaningful treatment for such problem.”

Kyle’s filing read, “Jaime has spent the past decade high. Jaime abused opiates before the children were born, continued to abuse drugs and alcohol throughout her pregnancies … driving under the influence with them in the car, becoming so intoxicated in front of them that they thought their mother was dying and abandoning them for days at a time to get drunk and high instead of care for them.”

In his declaration, Kyle claimed he had spent the “last decade and more trying to get Jaime help.”

He claimed he had covered for her when she was drunk, high, driving under the influence, missing for days at a time, late for work, fighting with friends, family, coworkers, employees and excused her “infidelities as being only the result of the drugs, and taking care of her when she was out of her mind, delusional or catatonic as a result of her substance abuse and eating disorders.”

Kyle said, “I have done everything I can think of to try and get her well so she can be the mother to our children that I know she can be, including interventions, working with her doctors to wean her off opiates, and trying to convince her to get into rehab many, many times.”

He added, “I have spent years worrying about Jaime killing herself by overdosing, drinking herself to death, starving herself, passing out drunk or high somewhere and getting hurt, raped, or murdered, or killing herself or others with her erratic and intoxicated driving. Since the birth of our children, I have struggled more and more with trying to balance helping Jaime and protecting the kids.”

Kyle claimed throughout their marriage Jaime would complain of various ailments to doctors to secure opiates.

He claimed she admitted to drinking “an occasional Guinness or glass of red wine” when he confronted her about drinking while pregnant with their first son in 2012.

He said after their first son was born in 2013, “Jaime became a different person.”

In court documents, Kyle claimed Jaime’s use of drugs increased after their son’s birth. He claimed he found a new doctor and tried to wean the actress off the drugs, but it didn’t work.

He said Jaime consistently denied she had a problem.

In 2014, Kyle said Jaime became pregnant with their second son. He said they had conversations with each other and her doctors about Jaime getting off her opiates.

Kyle claimed Jaime promised him she would not use.

“I later found out at our 20-week prenatal appointment that Jaime had been lying to me,” Kyle said. “Not only was Jaime continuing to take opiates …we found out at the same appointment that [their son] had a congenital heart defect and would need surgery to survive as soon as he was born.”

Kyle claimed that Jaime ignored doctor’s advice and continued to drink and take pills.

He said at her baby shower she was cut off by the bartender after her ninth alcoholic drink. “I was at a complete loss,” Kyle said.

In his declaration, Kyle said their second son was born in 2015 and immediately had open heart surgery.

He said after their second son’s birth, Jaime claimed she was suffering postpartum depression, Kyle said he did not know if that was true. He said he saw Jaime spend most of her time at home drinking alcohol and taking drugs “and not caring for” their children.

He claimed Jaime’s mental state continued to deteriorate. He claimed she had nonsensical delusions, became loopy and argumentative and made inconsistent and wildly implausible claims about her history.

“She wouldn’t remember conversations and began forgetting if she took her pills, so she would just take them again,” Kyle claimed.

He claimed Jaime also “began to insist” one of their sons was transgendered, “despite him never expressing any interest in being anything other than a boy.”

Kyle said he had multiple interventions for Jaime over the years, but said they never worked.

In 2019, Kyle claimed he reached out to an expert for help with Jaime. He said Jaime had been weaning down off the opiates for the previous 10 months, but was taking “hydrocodone‚ Klonopin‚ Adderall, Xanax, sleeping pills, and pretty much anything she could get her hands on.”

He claimed, “She had stopped eating and had lost a scary amount of weight. Jaime would go out to ‘business dinners’ at 8 p.m. and not come home until after 5 a.m., refusing to answer any texts or calls. When she did come home, she was frequently drunk or hung over or high or strung out. She would be confrontational with me, often getting physical.”

In his declaration, Kyle denied claims Jaime made of abuse in her restraining order petition.

The exes reached a temporary deal in June 2020 where they were agreed to share joint legal and physical custody. The deal also had a provision that said neither party shall drive within eight hours of consuming alcohol or any intoxicating substance.

Now, Kyle has primary custody until Jaime completes treatment and counseling.

The actress’ lawyer, Diana D. Hagopian, previously told In Touch, before Kyle was awarded primary custody, “Mr. Newman’s [previous] ex parte requests have been denied in their entirety by the court.”

“The allegations against Jaime are entirely false and intended to cause her harm and garner damaging media attention,” Diana added.

Diana said, “It is unfortunate that Mr. Newman continues to utilize the court in attempt to continue … the filing of unfounded malicious claims and to use the children as weapons and pawns without regard to their privacy.”

She ended, “Jaime is intent and solely focused on a peaceful and harmonious coparenting process and her utmost priority is the happiness, health, and well-being of their children.”
