Jaime King ‘Committed to Being the Best Mom’ After Losing Custody

Her visits will be supervised and limited. According to a court order filed on March 11 that awarded her ex-husband, Kyle Newman, sole physical custody of their two young sons, Jaime King is only allowed to see James, 11, and Leo, 9, for a total of eight hours a week, broken into three separate visits. Their phone calls can’t be longer than 20 minutes. And she must complete a six-month drug and alcohol rehab program with weekly testing and a 26-week parenting program. “She’s hit rock bottom before,” says a source, “but to basically lose her kids? This is a devastating blow.”
Kyle has accused her of shocking behavior. The ruling came six months after the filmmaker filed a restraining order, expressing concerns for how the actress, who filed for divorce after 13 years of marriage in 2020, was raising their kids.
“The children are scared of the uncertainty and chaos at her home,” Kyle claimed in the 2024 court documents, blaming drug and alcohol addiction issues. As his lawyer added to In Touch, “Kyle’s only wish is that Jaime finally gets the help she needs so that she can be a safe, healthy and appropriate parent.”
A Court Granted Jaime King’s Ex-Husband Sole Physical Custody of Their 2 Sons
The kids, Kyle alleged, often called him to tearfully beg for help. They described her as “drunk” after “partying all night” and claimed they had found strange men sleeping in their beds, according to the filing. Jaime, 45, often yelled at the boys, acted erratically around them and threatened to hurt them and herself, he alleged. Kyle, who is now wed to singer Cyn, with whom he has two more kids, also detailed an incident he witnessed.
“I saw Jaime sitting on her knees on the floor … and she appeared to not be wearing any pants. Jaime looked distressed, strung out and was acting drunk,” Kyle, 49, explained. “She tried to get up but could not stand. Jaime was slurring her words and said, ‘Those are bad boys. We have to do something about our boys. Their behavior is not right.’” (Jaime denied his allegations through her lawyer.)
This isn’t the first time he’s accused her of endangering their kids. In 2020 divorce papers, Kyle claims he heard from friends that she was drinking and using opioids during her pregnancy with Leo, adding that the baby was born with a congenital heart defect. In her own filing, Jaime insisted she didn’t have a drug or alcohol problem and accused him of “stalking” and “emotional abuse,” which he denied.
She has, however, admitted to issues with drugs in the past. She told New York Magazine in 2023 that she was first given heroin by a photographer’s assistant when she was just 14, working as a model.
At 18, shortly after a boyfriend’s death, she quit modeling and embraced meditation, the Hart of Dixie actress told The New York Times last year. And now, she’ll do whatever it takes to be there for her sons, adds the source. “She’s committed to being the best mom she can be.”
