J. Lo and Ben Affleck Clashing Over Sale of Former Marital Home

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s dream home has turned into a money pit. A source exclusively tells In Touch the actor, 52, and the singer, 55, are clashing over the way she’s allegedly handling the potential sale of their Beverly Hills marital mansion — which has been on the market for $68 million since July 2024. The duo – who wed in 2022 – paid $60.8 million for the 5.2-acre estate in May 2023.
“Ben and Jennifer have been strongly urged by realtors to lower the listing price, because $68 million is unlikely to attract buyers in today’s market. Friends say Ben wants to follow their advice — J. Lo, however, refuses,” says the source. “Meanwhile, they are hemorrhaging money by hanging on to the property. It’s turned into a money pit.”
The insider adds, “Rumor has it Ben didn’t even like the house and never wanted to buy it; cold and contemporary is not his style.” However, “J. Lo apparently loved it and didn’t care if they were overpaying. Then millions were spent changing the interior and purchasing new furniture and art. For J. Lo, it seems to be about finding the right buyer who will appreciate the mansion the way she does. It no doubt breaks her heart to sell this place she poured her time and soul into.”
Currently, that place is breaking the bank. Between utilities, upkeep, property taxes, insurance and the like, Realtor.com estimates the monthly costs for the mansion exceed $283,000! “Ben and Jennifer don’t have a full-time staff on the property, just a skeleton crew,” notes the insider, “but that still adds up to another couple hundred thousand dollars a year.”
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck Aren’t Hurting Financially Amid Home Sale
It’s seemingly only going to get worse. While their homeowners insurance is estimated at around $500,000 a year right now, rates are expected to go way up following January’s devastating wildfires in LA.
Of course, neither Ben nor Jennifer is hurting financially (he has an estimated net worth of $150 million, while hers is around $400 million), so perhaps it feels worth the wait to J. Lo. “It is a stunning property, and pals say Jennifer doesn’t want to fire-sale it,” spills the insider, noting the pair did reportedly receive a $64 million offer last year that fell through. “But those in Ben’s corner believe he just wants to sell the house, for a loss if necessary, and move on. He is generous with the people he loves, but he can also be very frugal and hearing about the cost of upkeep makes him wince.”

There may be another reason J. Lo is holding onto the mansion, though. “The house is the last link of their time together as a married couple,” observes the insider. “There are memories there, and she might not be ready to let go.”
As fans of the former couple know, Ben and Jennifer confirmed their split after two years of marriage when she filed for divorce in August 2024. The divorce was finalized in January. Despite no longer being a married couple, the duo have seemingly remained on good terms despite the home sale drama.
