Instagram adds MySpace-like ‘song on profile’ feature

Instagram is rolling out a new feature reminiscent of early 2000s MySpace.

Users who want to evoke nostalgia for the early days of social media can now add a song to their profile and curate a vibe with the “song on profile” feature.

The music the user chooses to add to their profile will show up in their bio area — but unlike MySpace, the song won’t be on autoplay. Anyone viewing the person’s profile can play and pause the track as they like.

A song will be featured on the profile until the user removes or replaces it.

To add a song, go to “edit profile” on your page, and in the music section, search for and select a track from Instagram’s library of music. You can then choose a 30-second snippet to add to your profile.

The social media platform launched the feature in collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter for the release of her new album “Short n’ Sweet.”

Yesterday, the 25-year-old “Espresso” singer’s profile had a 30-second teaser of her new song “Taste” ahead of the official release today.

Fans of Carpenter will be pleased to find out that Instagram has rolled out some other special features around the release of her album.

There is a “Sabrina Carpenter” chat theme featuring lipstick kisses, and using certain keywords or emojis in temporary notes — such as “Sabrina,” “💋,” “☕️,” “espresso,” “short n sweet” and more — will turn the note box light blue.
