Inside Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Plans for a ‘Lazy Summer’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been working nonstop for months and they’re looking forward to plenty of R&R this summer – but while family time is top priority, couples getaways without the kids are also high on the agenda, a source exclusively dishes to In Touch.

“They are taking some solid time off this summer, they want to enjoy lazy summer days at home in Montecito, taking the kids to the beach and having friends over for pool parties and al fresco dinners,” the source reveals.

The Sussexes also already have a few mini vacations in mind, according to the source.

“There’s some talk that they’ll meet up with friends on the East Coast for a group trip with all the kids,” adds the source. “Since they don’t do big group trips with their family like a lot of people do, they try to recreate a similar vibe with their core group of friends.”

Harry, 40, and Meghan, 43, are even planning a trip to Portugal, as they’re eager for son Archie, 5, and daughter Lilibet, 3, to “spend time with [Princess] Eugenie and Jack [Brooksbanks]’s kids,” the source adds, referring to the royal couple’s boys – August, 4, and Ernest, 22 months. “They want to make special memories with their kids.”

Aside from travel and family time, “reconnecting with each other is something else they’re looking forward to,” continues the source.

“As much as they love being with their kids, they do want to have some adults-only time as well,” the source explains. “They aren’t going to want to leave the kids for a long stretch, probably just a long weekend, but that is something they do plan to prioritize.”

Harry and Meghan didn’t wait for the summer to plan romantic nights together! As In Touch previously reported, the pair had been connecting through cooking together while preparing for the mother of two’s Netflix lifestyle show, With Love, Meghan, which premiered on March 4.

“Back when they were first dating, cooking a roast chicken dinner together was a go-to date night because they really couldn’t be seen in public together. Now, all these years later, it’s still one of their favorite ways to connect,” a source said on March 14. “[Her mother] Doria [Ragland] will take over with the kids and they’ll spend an evening in the kitchen making dinner for two.”

Although Harry and Meghan “got out of the habit, when the kids were younger,” according to the source, “they realized they needed to make time for their marriage a priority, which is why combining making dinner with a little romance and some creative brainstorming is perfect for them.”

Harry and Meghan quietly began dating in July 2016 and went public with their relationship in November 2016. One year later, they announced their engagement in November 2017, and they tied the knot in a lavish wedding on May 19, 2018. They later made the decision to step down as senior royals in January 2020 and moved to California that March.

During a March 7 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Meghan said she felt “very lucky” to have met Harry, who she described as the “funniest, sweetest, most charming” man and “amazing father.”

“We have this connection, I think, because we’re so committed to treating each other the same way you did before [we] had a ring on it,” she said at the time. “When you’re just courting each other and you can see all the good and joy during that butterfly period.”
