Home cook freaks after realizing electric stove hacked his Bluetooth headphones: ‘So weird’

It’s a hot-button issue.

A home cook was left dumbfounded after turning up the heat on his electric cooktop only to realize his wireless headphones were also increasing in volume.

The flabbergasted chef detailed the incident in a Reddit post, revealing he was wearing a pair of noise-canceling Bluetooth earphones while whipping up pancakes atop a Siemens-brand stove.

“When cooking on my induction stovetop while wearing my Sony WH1000 XM4’s the touch controls on the headphones react to the magnetic field from the stove, making them change volume, pause, play…” the Redditor wrote.

Scholarship concerning an electric stove’s effect on wireless earbuds is scarce.

However, the appliance’s magnetic fields have been shown to interfere with electronics, including pacemakers and digital meat thermometers.

This is why many cooking experts advise people to use an analog meat thermometer when cooking with an electric stove.

Redditors were left stunned by the fact the headphones could be controlled by the stove’s buttons, with one bluntly writing: “That’s so weird.”

“I have the same stovetop and headphones,” a second stated. “Now I feel like I’m kind of obligated to try this for science.”

Meanwhile, others chimed in to say they had noticed magnetic fields also interfering with other electronics.

“My mom’s TV remote used to change the fan’s speed,” one stated. “SO annoying”

Another found the phenomenon far less irritating, saying: “My TV remote’s volume button will turn my electric fireplace on and off. It’s actually really convenient for me. One less remote I have to use.”
