Fruits and vegetables are great for weight loss — but these are the best
Vegging out can help you lose weight — and gain back your health.
Eating certain fruits and vegetables can help people lose weight and feel fuller longer, nutritionist Aneequa Godart told The Mirror to raise awareness on World Obesity Day on Monday, March 4.
Obesity affects 41% of Americans, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Obesity can cause chronic medical problems including Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and some cancers.
Below are four categories of fruits and veggies that are recommended by Godart and other experts for battling the bulge.
Celery
This low-calorie vegetable can keep weight at bay.
“First on my list of fruits and veg for weight loss is celery. Often touted for its ‘negative calorie’ effect, meaning your body may burn more calories digesting it than the calories it contains,” Godart told The Mirror.
Celery’s antioxidants also make it an inflammation-busting veggie and it can prevent cancer.
Apples
Apples are high in fiber — which can make people feel fuller longer, thereby helping people control their appetite and weight, Healthline reported.
Godart also recommended people incorporate apples into their diets.
“Apples are another great option for those looking to lose weight, rich in dietary fiber and pectin, which helps regulate your body’s absorption of fat,” Godart explained.
Berries
Berries are one of the best fruits for weightless, Healthline reported. Godart agreed.
“Berries — such as strawberries, blueberries and raspberries — are low in sugar but high in antioxidants and fiber, making them perfect for satisfying sweet cravings when on a weight loss plan,” she told The Mirror.
Non-starchy vegetables
Godart explained that vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower and cucumber are high in fiber and water content, which also helps someone to feel full.
