Fetterman slams Newsom: He’s running for president but doesn’t have the ‘guts’ to announce
Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) criticized California’s Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom on Saturday as tensions rise within the party over the 2024 presidential election.
During remarks at an event in Iowa, Fetterman chastised Newsom over suspicions that he is running a shadow campaign for the White House, while publicly insisting that he supports President Joe Biden’s effort to seek a second term with Vice President Kamala Harris again as his running mate.
“There are two more Democrats running for…president right now,” Fetterman said. according to NBC News“One is a congressman from Minnesota, the other is the governor of California, but only one has the courage to announce it.”
The other Democrat Fetterman referenced was Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN), who announced a primary challenge against Biden last month while vocation for a “new generation of American leaders.”
Newsom claims he is procrastinating to Biden re-election offer but he has fueled much speculation about his political ambitions by traveling to Israel and China, as well as agreeing to have a debate with Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is running for the GOP presidential nomination. The governor of California even joked recently about how he would like to be president to better address foreign affairs.
Some of Biden’s followers and others have called him consider dropping out amid low approval numbers, unfavorable polls in a hypothetical rematch against former President Donald Trump and concerns about his fitness to continue serving as commander in chief at the age of 80.

He became the center of the fight over the Senate’s brief relaxation of the dress code, as he often skirted the rules with his penchant for casual clothing.
