Farmer Wants a Wife’s Matt Warren on ‘Red Flag’ He Watched Out For

Farmer Matt Warren had one major “deal-beaker” when it came to finding his wife on season 3 of Farmer Wants a Wife, he exclusively tells In Touch.
“I try to look at how respectful they are not just to me but to other people too,” the California farmer, 30, explains of his pool of eligible bachelorettes. “During filming, I was kind of watching the girls and how they would get along and treat each other.”
Not only that, but Matt also paid special attention to how his contestants would treat the crew of the production team during filming. “I think that tells a lot about somebody,” he explains. “So, someone that just doesn’t have respect for people I think is a huge red flag for me because it’s going to come back on me at some point.”
Matt was one of four farmers — alongside Jay Woods, Colton Hendricks and John Sansone — featured on season 3 of Farmer Wants a Wife, which premiered on FOX on March 20.
The unique dating show followed each farmer as they welcomed their contestants to their personal farms — spanning from California to Alabama — where the women got a real taste of farm life. From cattle herding to avocado picking, contestants were put to the ultimate test to see if they were truly ready to roll up their sleeves and trade in city living for life in the country.
Matt exclusively tells In Touch that there were “three basic” qualities he was looking for in a wife while going through the show’s filming process — which has proven to have a high-level of success as the show’s international versions have reportedly resulted in over 200 marriages and more than 500 children worldwide as of February 2024, according to Today.
“Faith is a must-have. It may not be that you have to be this devout practicing Christian, that’s super into it, but at least open to,” he says. “Or something you’re working on because if we don’t see eye to eye on that then that’s pretty hard to make things work.”
The second important thing to Matt was “family,” as his own was “very close,” and his final pick needed to be “someone that’s either involved in their family or interested in being involved in mine.”
Lastly, he was looking for someone to build a family with, as he definitely wanted kids. “Hopefully a lot of them. And so those three basics are like must-haves, but beyond that, I’m pretty active and try to be pretty health conscious,” he adds. “So, someone that’s into that kind of lifestyle and really just likes to have fun whether it’s traveling or doing stuff around here and wants to have an adventure.”
As for his physical type, despite being nicknamed “the blonde farm on the show,” due to his majority of light-haired contestants, he says he doesn’t have “a preference as far as that goes.”
“I’ve dated multiple different girls over the years and there’s been brown hair and blonde hair,” he recounts. “But I think someone, like I said, that’s just physically active is important to me not just for esthetic reasons but for health too.”
Farmer Wants a Wife airs Thursdays on Fox at 9 p.m. ET.
