Farmer Wants a Wife’s Colton Says Son Is ‘Super Happy’ With Final Pick

During his journey on season 3 of Farmer Wants a Wife, Colton Hendricks wasn’t just searching for a wife — he was also looking for a loving mother for his 3-year-old son, Souther.

“My son is super happy,” Colton, 28, exclusively tells In Touch of how the toddler feels about his final pick. “We’re always happy around here. We live and we learn.”

Fans watched as Colton, alongside three other farmers — Jay Woods, Matt Warren, John Sansone — were each introduced to eight potential love connections during the season 3 premiere of Farmer Wants a Wife, which aired on FOX on March 20.

After narrowing their choices to five women, the four farmers invited their pool of eligible bachelorettes to their respective farms across rustic locations from Alabama to Arkansas. One lucky special connection was selected to spend 24 exclusive hours with the farmer before the other women arrived.

Colton, a cattle rancher and horse trainer from Mena, Arkansas, made it clear early on that his son would play a pivotal role in his decision when choosing the final woman at the end.

“He’s the most important thing in my life. You can pretty much change everything about your life except for your kids,” he explains of how he viewed dating on the show. “For me, I’m looking at more aspects than what’s on the surface level with these girls.”

The Arkansas native was focused on finding someone committed to a long-term relationship, understanding that exposing his child to multiple failed relationships at a young age could have a “big impact” on him.

“I’m in the worst position out of all these guys to find love because I’ve already been married and divorced and statistically, if you’ve already been married and divorced, you’re more likely to get divorced on the next one,” he says. “So, there’s a lot of guys that are very easy going on some things and it’s like, for me, I’m super strict on a lot of things.”

Colton was focused on looking for a “potential mother,” as he was clear about wanting to expand his family one day.

“Like I said, I like to have a good time and stuff like that but there’s little things that I notice about each girl,” he says.

Colton has formed connections with several women, but he also became the first farmer this season to send a contestant home. During the April 3 episode, Colton ended things with Taylar after deciding not to “string” her along.

“There was a girl or two at the speed date that I kinda thought that too about the heart kind of skipping a beat,” he admitted to her during the solo chat. “I feel like I’ve got a really good connection. I do not want to string you along and think, like, if it comes down to you and another girl, I’ve only looked at her.”

However, when Taylar, 26, returned to the group of women to say her goodbyes, she seemingly twisted Colton’s words by warning them, “He was like, ‘It’s really hard because from my very first conversation, I had eyes and my heart skipped a beat for one girl.’”

Colton later invited Keeley, a 22-year-old dance coach from Cincinnati, Ohio, for some special one-on-one time, where she confronted him about his statement.

The farmer called it a “terrible choice of words,” adding, “The situation was she was telling me how much she liked me and how she looked at me, and things like that, and it caught me off guard. I said, ‘Yeah, I felt the same way, just about somebody else.’ And it wasn’t meaning one person.”

Farmer Wants a Wife airs on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on FOX with episodes available to stream on Hulu the following day.
