Empty Funyuns bag goes viral amid shrinkflation epidemic

There’s shrinkflation, and then there’s whatever this is.

Americans have grown accustomed to paying more for less of their favorite foods and drinks as inflated prices seemingly become the new normal.

But one Funyuns fan couldn’t help but freak after finding that a bag of her favorite savory snack contained one lone, onion-flavored circular chip.

Tatiana opened a bag of chips and was disappointed when there was only one Funyun inside.

Tatiana, also known as @tatianaaaatt on TikTok, immediately put junk food giant Frito-Lay on blast using the popular social media site — snagging 1.2 million views and a lot of sympathetic comments.

“So, someone from Frito-Lay, you need to be fired,” the needled nosher says in the viral video, posted just last week. “I bought this yesterday from Walmart.”

In the clip, posted just last week, the snacktivist revealed she purchased a 42-count multipack of Frito-Lay Snack Chips from Walmart.

However, she was disappointed when she opened one of the bags to find it nearly empty.

“Who’s trying to be funny?” Tatiana questions. “That’s not right.”

Before she opened the onion-ring flavored bag, she demonstrated how light the packaging was by shaking it around.

“This is it closed,” she sighed.

The caption on the oft-viewed video reads “@Frito-Lay, please send me some chips, lmao. Cause who works there did that?”

Nearly 6,000 people commented, demanding the snack behemoth open an investigation.

“Even the crumbs are missing,” chuckled one watcher. “And as expensive as chips are these days!”

“I’d rather it be empty than have just one single chip,” added another.

“I’d be so mad. Those are my favorite chips in that variety pack. Somebody gotta pay for this,” a man commented.

“We need an investigation now,” demanded one TikToker.

“I want a free bag too. Cause I kept the silence when it happened to me,” another chimed in.

She demanded an explanation from Frito-Lay for the lack of chips.

News of the lonesome chip made its way to Frito-Lay headquarters, who revealed they plan to make it right with Tatiana.

“We’re working to get in touch with Tatiana to make this right,” a Frito-Lay representative told TODAY.com. “No one is ever happy with just one Funyun — our teams will get to the bottom of how this happened so consumers receive the quality and value they expect every time, with every bag.”

Tatiana isn’t the only one claiming to be deceived by the snack brand.

Earlier this year, a man uploaded a clip on Reddit revealing that his bag of Doritos contained a chip and a crumb inside.

“There you go ladies and gentlemen, an ounce of chips, he said. “Bags of chips can’t get any smaller.”
