Elon Musk backtracks after calling anti-Semitic post X ‘the real truth’
Elon Musk faced new accusations of being anti-Semitic after endorsing a post on his social media platform X that claimed Jewish communities promote “anti-white hate.”
“You have told the real truth” Musk responded. on the site formerly known as Twitter.
The billionaire, who has faced criticism from Jewish civil rights groups for allowing hate speech to fester on X, weighed in after a user posted the anti-Semitic trope that Jews want to bring undocumented minority populations to Western countries to reduce the white majorities.
“Jewish communities have been pushing exactly the kind of dialectical hatred against white people that they claim they want people to stop using against them,” X user @breakingbaht. shared.
Musk’s response sparked immediate outrage.
“Wow. This is anti-Semitism, straight up,” one user wrote.
Another furious: “Doubt. What are you talking about? What Jewish people are driving hatred towards whites?”
“This is more than disappointing for you,” however other he intervened.
About two hours later, Musk apparently attempted to backtrack on his post, saying he does not believe hate toward whites extends “to all Jewish communities.”
But he quickly reignited his battle with the Anti-Defamation League, which he promotes on his website who works “to stop the defamation of the Jewish people.”
“The ADL unfairly attacks the majority of the West, even though the majority of the West supports the Jewish people and Israel. This is because, according to their own principles, they cannot criticize the minority groups that constitute their main threat. It is not right and it must stop.” he tweeted.
Musk later accused the group of launching a tweet storm accusing the ADL of trying to shut down the site formerly known as Twitter by “falsely accusing him and me of being anti-Semitic.”
Musk, who bought the site for $44 billion last year, has blamed the ADL’s campaign to moderate hate speech on its site for a 60% drop in ad sales. He has threatened to sue the group for “falsely accusing (X) and me of being anti-Semitic.”
He continued his tirade against the ADL on Wednesday night, tweeting: “And, at the risk of being repetitive, I am deeply offended by the messages of the ADL and any other group that pushes de facto anti-white racism or anti-Asian racism or racism of any kind. I’m sick of this. Stop now.”
A similar dispute between Musk and X users over whether the Tesla and SpaceX founder is anti-Semitic took place in the days after Hamas’ surprise attack on Israel on October 7, when the 52-year-old billionaire was pressured to delete his own tweets after promoting accounts that have spread hate speech and disinformation by reporting on Hamas.
“To follow the war in real time, @WarMonitors and @sentdefender are good,” Musk shared on October 8 with his more than 163 million followers. “It is also worth following direct sources on the ground. Please add interesting options in the answers below.”
Musk’s post was viewed 11 million times in three hours before he eventually removed it after being criticized for endorsing accounts that have a history of being “anti-Semitic” and “biased.”
“As always, try to stay as close to the truth as possible, even in the things you don’t like. “This platform aspires to maximize the signal/noise of the human collective,” Musk wrote that same day.
