Dead Longhorn found mutilated in front of Oklahoma State University fraternity house in the middle of Big 12 Championship game
Just one day before the Big 12 Championship game between the University of Texas and Oklahoma State University, a mutilated longhorn was discovered in front of a fraternity house in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
KRIV reported that the body of a steer was discovered around 6:30 a.m. in front of the university’s FarmHouse fraternity house with its stomach cut open and an insult scrawled on the side.
Authorities reportedly removed the animal from the area and Stillwater police are investigating the situation.
Oklahoma State University’s Account “Stillwater police are investigating the incident and the university’s Office of Student Conduct and Support has launched an investigation.”
“The State of Oklahoma expects all students to abide by the university’s codes of conduct and appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.”
While many believe the incident was related to the upcoming football match, no correlation has been confirmed. Following the discovery, the FarmHouse fraternity issued a statement regarding its Facebook pagewriting, “As a chapter founded on principles driven by our agricultural roots, we are as sickened and shocked by this incident as our peers on campus.”
“No FarmHouse members were involved in this incident and we do not tolerate cruelty or disfigurement of livestock in any way.”
WFAA reported that Kennedy Thomason, a reporter for The O’Colly, said she speculates that the bull’s death is a prank by a rival fraternity. Apparently, she was one of the first people to arrive at the scene.
“I can’t confirm that, but from my own opinion, yes, that’s what I would say. There are a lot of harmless pranks that generally happen between fraternities, but I’ve never seen anything of this magnitude,” he said. .
The Livestock Conservancy, a non-profit organization focused on preserving and promoting rare breeds. The nonprofit noted that the Texas Longhorn has been listed as an endangered species and issued a full statement.
“As individuals and as an organization, we are saddened and heartbroken by the death of a Texas Longhorn, found this morning at an off-campus fraternity in Stillwater. Texas Longhorns (CTLR), an endangered breed placed on the Texas Priority List Conservation by The Livestock Conservancy, they are a “subset” of the Texas Longhorns registered in the Cattleman’s Texas Longhorn Registry. These animals have a different genetic makeup than the much more common “modern” Texas Longhorns, the breed used, e.g. as the mascot of the University of Texas.”
“Regardless, animal cruelty is something we take very seriously and work tirelessly to prevent.”
