Daughters celebrate as parents re-marry 10 years after bitter split

It’s a love story fit for a Nancy Meyers movie.

Two daughters are celebrating their parents’ remarriage a decade after an acrimonious split, likening their romantic reunion to the 1998 Lindsay Lohan flick “The Parent Trap,” directed by Meyers.

Rachel Gaede, who boasts more than 368,000 followers on TikTok, has been chronicling her mom and dad’s reunion online, which culminated with wedding bells on Thursday.

“Successful ‘Parent Trap,’” Rachel, 24, captioned a viral video, which scored 4.2 million views and featured her parents, Julie Shore and Scott Gaede, both aged 54, sharing a sweet smooch.

The clip also featured younger sister, Caroline, 20.

Celebrating “no longer [being] children of divorce,” Rachel posted a series of videos from the big day, describing how “surreal” it was to be at her own parent’s wedding 10 years after the pair initially separated.

While the situation slightly differs from “The Parent Trap” — which revolved around twin sisters plotting to get their divorced parents back together — many TikTok viewers remarked on the parallels.

Julie, an educator, and Scott, a salesman, separated in 2014 after the “slow deterioration” of their relationship, finalizing their divorce in 2018, they told Business Insider.

The couple, who began seeing other people, was “not friends” post-split, and Julie described their relationship as “contentious.”

It wasn’t until the pandemic hit that they began to be “friendly” with one another, and when Scott’s mother died in November 2020, Julie rushed to the hospital to be by his side. Then, just six months later, Scott’s father and his father’s best friend and business partner passed away within hours of each other.

“It was a moment for me,” Julie said, recalling the “highly emotional” time period and thinking: “Family is all that matters. Nothing else.”

The series of events gave Julie a new outlook on life: “When everything’s been taken away that you thought you would have and you get it back — I wake up every day grateful.”

The unimaginable losses served as the catalyst for Scott and Julie’s rekindling, and the couple, who decided to date again, move the family under one roof. He proposed in December 2022.

“They were friends in a way that they never had been,” Caroline told Business Insider. “We were doing things that we hadn’t done since I was probably 12 or 13, and it was more fun than it ever was.”

Rachel shared the same joy over her parents’ revived romance, admitting in one TikTok video that she “would’ve never believed” they would “be living together again and having the silliest time of their lives.”

Their parents’ adoration for each other — and their daughters’ enthusiasm — has captivated hundreds of thousands of viewers online, some of whom are calling it “the royal wedding.”

“Fully sobbing for you rn I’ve never been so happy for strangers,” wrote one fan.

“Can you all adopt me now?” commented another. “This is so adorable.”

“This encompasses any hallmark movie this christmas!” someone else said.
