Cole Bures proposes to Samantha Camenzind after she kills a giant buck

This will be a different type of shotgun wedding.

A Nebraska man proposed to his girlfriend moments after she shot and killed a once-in-a-lifetime deer during a hunting trip this month.

As the couple posed for professional photos with their prized deer, boyfriend Cole Bures got down on one knee to ask his girlfriend Samantha Camenzind to marry him.

“It was perfect, but I still didn’t expect it,” she he told the Omaha World-Herald.

“It’s something we both love to do. “I guess I couldn’t imagine it being any other way.”

During the recent hunting trip, the lovebirds spotted a deer on a trail camera south of Lincoln and went after the unsuspecting animal.

Bures, 32, encouraged Camenzind, 28, to fire the first shot.

He bagged the giant deer with 11 spikes on one side of its antlers and nine on the other side.

The couple has been dating for three years and bonded over their love of hunting.

“Everyone has been saying that they would marry him too if he allowed them to hunt such a big deer,” Camenzind told the newspaper.

“I was as excited as she was when she received it,” Bures added.

The couple has been dating for three years and bonded over their love of hunting. They both come from families that hunt and eat everything they kill.

Camenzind says the proposal surprised her, but she's happy with how it came about.

After the deer was shot, Bures suggested they call a professional photographer to capture the big moment. While the photos were being taken, he knelt down and asked the question.

“I don’t know if they were more surprised that we got engaged or [by] the size of the deer,” Camenzind said of his loved ones when they saw the photos.

Bures got the idea from a friend who made a similar proposal to him during a hunting trip in Alaska.

The two have yet to choose a date for the wedding, although they aim for it to be next fall.

“But not during hunting season,” he said.
