Clean coal beats Dems’ radical climate dogma

Democrats’ radical green playbook is showing its decrepitude.

Californians are sick of far-left climate policies that drive up prices for everything from energy to housing to gas prices and transportation.

And the more the left clings to climate dogma, the further behind the state and nation fall to China, which builds coal plants at the rate of about two per week.

Coal offers safe, cheap and reliable energy; Beijing gets that, even if Gov. Gavin Newsom and his fellow Dems don’t.

So it was good to see President Trump step in this week, cut through the bilge, and support clean coal infrastructure.

Trump’s executive order, based on national defense law, will pipe nearly $700 million to coal projects in 13 states, including California.

Some $75 million will go toward building a coal export terminal in Oakland, which could ship millions of tons of US coal per year to Asian markets starting in 2028.

Trump’s approach is sound. It boosts jobs, prosperity, and, most vitally, an America First energy policy.

The latter means ensuring domestic energy supply to avoid compromising national security through reliance on foreign suppliers.

Of course, lefties –– who’ve spent years fighting big bad coal, including the Oakland terminal project –– are seething.

Predictably, Newsom complained via multiple posts on X.

“Ruining our democracy wasn’t enough for Trump,” he averred in one. “Now he’s destroying our planet, too. Welcome to the Stone Age!”

Sigh. Does anyone still buy this banal hyperbole?

If clean, reliable, affordable, national-security-ensuring coal represents the Stone Age, sign us up.

Better than the Newsom age, where green insanity reigns.

Under the California left’s climate regime, costs are simply too high: $6 gasoline (compared with a national average closer to $4), soaring electric bills, stratospheric housing prices made worse by green-energy building mandates, and on the list goes.

Meanwhile, the green-regime’s “benefits” accrue not to Californians, but to Dem politicians, who preen, pander and collect campaign donations, and their pals, who plump up on green pork billed to taxpayers.

It was always nonsense that California or the US could simply shut down oil, coal, natural gas and even nuclear energy production and shift merrily over to wind, solar, and what –– pixie dust?

Of course there’s room for renewables in the energy mix. But the wind will still and the sun will hide. It’s folly to suggest that an energy-thirsty world is anywhere near abandoning fossil fuels.

Newsom does or should know this.

And yet he’s demonized gas and coal and oil; harangued Chevron and other energy producers; and effectively shuttered a large swath of California’s oil production, leaving the state vulnerable to shortages, supply interruptions, cost spikes, and more.

That’s a dismal record to drag into the 2028 presidential campaign.

The good news is: As Newsom prepares to leave the governor’s mansion, the worst of the green lunacy just might depart with him.
