Ben Foster Files for Divorce From Laura Prepon After 6-Year Marriage
Ben Foster filed for divorce from Laura Prepon, according to court paperwork obtained by In Touch on Tuesday, November 12.
The Alpha Dog star, 44, filed the paperwork electronically, listing their separation date as September 9, 2023. Ben cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for his split from Laura, 44, saying in the document that they were “unable to live together successfully as husband and wife.”
Ben and Laura share two children. Daughter Ella was born in August 2017, while the duo welcomed a son in February 2020. The actor asked the court to enforce a 2018 prenuptial agreement between the pair. The former couple married on June 3, 2018.
The duo has known each other since they were teenagers, but things didn’t turn romantic until 2016, when Ben and Laura began dating. The pair revealed their engagement in October of that year, when Laura flashed a diamond ring while the couple walked the red carpet at The Girl on the Train premiere.
The That ‘70s Show alum gushed about her pregnancy in July 2017. “I’m creating life and it’s so incredible,” Laura told Us Weekly, “I’m so ecstatic for this experience, but you go through so many changes. We’ve been in the Pacific Northwest keeping it low-key. I’m a very private person.”
The Orange Is the New Black alum opened up about how hard it was to return to filming the Netflix show after giving birth to their daughter.
“It’s torture,” Laura told Us in May 2018. “I went back to work at six weeks. I was directing when she was a 4-month-old. But she would be proud if she knew what I was doing.”
“Everyone always talks about how curious and relaxed she is and it’s because I bring her to a ton of places,” she added. “It’s just try to expose her. When I have to run errands and do stuff, she’s with me.”
The former couple’s second child’s arrival was announced in an Instagram photo, showing Laura kissing her newborn’s hand. “Welcoming home our new bundle of love. Overwhelmed with gratitude,” she wrote in the caption.
Ben and Laura have never revealed their son’s name due to their desire for privacy.
“It’s a constant negotiation because we’re so fortunate to do what we love,” she told Us Weekly in April 2020. “But part of being in the public eye is how do you negotiate keeping your privacy, how do you negotiate keeping your personal life private?”
The You and I, As Mothers author shared how she and Ben found a peaceful way to spend time together in an August 2021 interview.
“We meditate daily and I’m really liking it,” Laura told People. “Because it’s something that helps me to hear my own voice and it’s something we can do together.”
The former couple also enjoyed movie nights at home.
“We pick a director and watch a bunch of their films. I’ll make us a homemade meal and we’ll do our film school and talk about it. We’ve been watching Preston Sturges. Or we’ll do Orson Welles or John Huston. I love The Treasure of the Sierra Madre,” she revealed.
