Bachelorette’s DeAnna Pappas’ Ex Blames Her for His Unemployment

Bachelorette alum DeAnna Pappas’ ex-husband, Stephen Stagliano, slammed her in court days after she revealed no criminal charges would be filed against her over her arrest following an altercation with him, In Touch can exclusively report.

On Monday, April 14, Stephen, 41, filed documents, obtained by In Touch, as part of his ugly divorce war with DeAnna, 43, informing the court he recently became unemployed.

In his filing, Stephen said he is the CEO and founder of Story Games Inc, a gaming and entertainment company. He said he became unemployed on April 1.

He said, “My company could not secure additional funding.” Stephen said he stopped paying himself for a period of time, then started paying himself the $4,000 a month but is now unemployed.

He told the court, “As of April 2025, I have no income. I am actively looking for a job and DeAnna’s constantly changing work schedule and her drinking has made it incredible difficult to do so.”

Stephen believes DeAnna, who works as a flight attendant, earns around $160,000 per year. In his filing, he said he has $18,211 in his bank accounts, but his monthly expenses total $7,907.39.

He said he’s spent $16,521 on his divorce lawyer, using his credit card, and still owes $1,500. DeAnna and Stephen wed in 2011 and split in early 2023.

The duo settled their divorce in June 2024. The deal contained a provision that prohibited either from drinking excessively around the children.

As In Touch first reported, DeAnna was arrested on February 27 on a misdemeanor charge after an incident with Stephen at her home during a custody exchange.

DeAnna claimed Stephen showed up and demanded to smell her to see if she had been drinking. She said she had not been drinking but refused to comply with her ex’s demands.

DeAnna claimed she went inside her home but then heard noises in her garage.

“Stephen took his hands, grabbing me, and then forcefully shoved me. He pushed my back again. In fear that he would hurt me, I immediately went back inside the house and locked the door while I waited for the police to arrive,” she said.

Stephen allegedly called the police and told them DeAnna was the aggressor. DeAnna denied claims that she had punched and slapped him.

She added, “In response to [Stephen’s] outlandish claim that I punched, slapped and grabbed his neck, that is unequivocally untrue.”

Despite her claims against Stephen, the police ended up booking DeAnna on the night in question. After her release from jail, DeAnna claimed she submitted to a voluntary drug and alcohol test that came back negative.

She said, “I am not an alcoholic.”

She also claimed their daughter, who was present during the altercation, filmed a video that backed up her claim Stephen was the aggressor. DeAnna filed for a restraining order against Stephen.

She claimed he had gotten physical with her during the marriage and had past mental health issues.

A couple of weeks later, as In Touch first reported, DeAnna dropped her request for a restraining order before Stephen could respond to the allegations.

DeAnna’s lawyer told the court that their client worked out a deal with Stephen and the restraining order was no longer wanted.

On March 7, Lynn Stagliano, who appears to be Stephen’s mother, filed a declaration in the divorce. Lynn said, “On Wednesday, February 26, at 7:38 a.m., I went to DeAnna’s house to help get Austin to school. I very clearly smelled alcohol on DeAnna’s breath. I put Austin in the car and left.”

In a response, DeAnna scoffed at the claims. She said, “The basis of [Stephen’s] is based on his fabrication that I am an alcoholic. This is wholly false and fabricated as way for [Stephen] to gain leverage in his attempt to alienate the children from me.”

As In Touch previously reported, DeAnna, who appeared on season 11 of The Bachelor and then starred on season 4 of The Bachelorette, filed for divorce in January 2023.
