American Gen Zers are looking for love in other countries, Tinder reveals — and one surprising city tops them all
As singles continue to complain about the dating scene, they’re checking out of theirs and searching for love anywhere they can — whether it be reading parties or even abroad.
Tinder reported a surge in users who utilized its “passport” feature, which allows singles to check out the dating scene — or find a sexy local tour guide — in another city.
But where are Gen Z Americans looking for love?
Most Tinder users aged 18 to 25 changed their location to London — because who doesn’t love a British accent?
But singles also obviously had to try their luck in France’s City of Love — especially as the world’s best athletes gathered in Paris for the Olympics over the summer. It was the fourth most popular locale, behind domestic destinations New York City (No. 2) and Los Angeles (No. 3).
Those wanting to use their passport to possibly fly around the world to meet their date also set their search to Tokyo, the fifth-favorite city for a location shift.
However, looking at countries as a whole, Americans stayed loyal to love in North America, with the most common countries being added to profiles being Mexico and Canada.
People who wanted to switch continents swiped right on Colombia and the Philippines, while others checked out their matches in Japan, falling in love with Tokyo and beyond.
“Singles are embracing intentionality in their dating lives — being upfront about what they want and refusing to settle,” Melissa Hobley, Tinder’s chief marketing officer, said in a statement.
“These trends are all about empowering choice.”
Although some people are swearing off dating apps, those who match on them can have romances that are just as strong as those who meet in person.
An October study published in the journal Social Sciences found no significant differences based on whether relationships were initiated online or face-to-face.
In today’s digital age, most couples meet online, and a report found that the majority of users (63%) created a dating profile to seek out a serious relationship.
Possibly in another country, thanks to Tinder Passport.
