American foodies lose it over Australian McDonald’s burger set to launch in US

Americans are about to get a staple burger from the Australian McDonald’s menu – and it’s fair to say, they’re losing their minds.

The burger giant just announced the Double Big Mac would be sold for a limited time across its US stores from January 24.

Australians are no stranger to the hectic burger, which features four beef patties and lashings of the brand’s signature Big Mac sauce, as it has been a permanent item on our menus since March 2020.

Now fast-food fanatics in the Northern Hemisphere can get their hands on the mammoth menu item, which McDonald’s described as “double the fun”, sending their tastebuds into overdrive.

But while some diners have welcomed the sandwich, others have labelled it “disgusting”.

“I’m gonna eat one of those, then feel disgusting after, but I bet I’ll enjoy every minute,” one excited American wrote on Facebook.

“Yum! I can’t wait!” someone else stated, as one wrote: “I’ll take 3 please.”

On X, formerly known as Twitter, users were equally as enthusiastic.

Others argued Americans, who have some of the highest rates of obesity in the world, probably didn’t need such an “obscene” burger.

“The rest of the world is right with their opinions of Americans,” one lamented.

“Yes because we need to get fatter thanks,” someone else reasoned.

As one asked: “Are they going to call it the heart attack Mac?”

Many pointed out the Double Big Mac, which is topped off with pickles, lettuce, onions, and American cheese, all sandwiched between a sesame seed bun, has been available in multiple countries around the world for a while – including Australia and New Zealand.

“You can get this in Canada, it’s deadly,” one commented.

“I’m from the UK and you can buy these here,” another chipped in.

The monster burger contains 680 calories and according to reports it could set diners back more than $20 after the global franchise hiked its prices in the country by 14 percent in the third quarter of 2023.

One US branch charged as much as $18 for a Big Mac combo meal, which includes medium fries and a medium soft drink, The Post reported in October.

Australians can buy several classic McDonald’s burgers in “double” sizes, including the “Double Quarter Pounder”, the “Double McChicken” and the “Double Fillet-O-Fish”.
