A Minnesota state senator accused of soliciting a minor for prostitution has resigned

ST. PAUL, Minn. (KBJR/Gray News) – A Minnesota state senator accused of soliciting a minor for prostitution has resigned.

Minnesota state Sen. Justin Eichorn, a Republican from Grand Rapids, has submitted his letter of resignation, according to the Minnesota Senate Republican Leader Mark Johnson.

Johnson shared the update in a news release Thursday morning and said Eichorn’s resignation is effective Thursday,

“This is the right thing to do for his family and the Senate,” Johnson said. “We are ready to move on and do the important work that needs to be done at the Capitol.”

A motion to expel is not in order if the member has resigned, according to Johnson.

It was reported Wednesday that Eichorn was charged with soliciting a minor for prostitution.

According to the criminal complaint, Eichorn responded to an ad that was part of an undercover prostitution operation targeting the solicitation of minors.

He corresponded several times with an undercover officer posing as a 17-year-old girl before agreeing to meet her in Bloomington. He was arrested upon arriving at the location
