Chuck Grassley is out of hospital

GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa has been released from the hospital and anticipates returning to work next week, his office announced in a statement just days after announcing that the lawmaker was at a hospital receiving antibiotic infusions to tackle an infection.

“Thx for ur well wishes & prayers Happy to be home I look fwd to getting back to work,” Grassley tweeted on Thursday.

In a Tuesday statement, Grassley’s office had noted that the lawmaker was “receiving antibiotic infusions at an area hospital to treat an infection” and that he was “in good spirits and will return to work as soon as possible following doctors’ orders.”

GOP Sen. Rick Scott of Florida called Grassley “tough as nails” in a post on Tuesday. “Get well soon, Chuck. We’ll have the @DairyQueen ready when you get back to the Senate!” he tweeted.

Grassley, 90, is the oldest lawmaker currently serving in the Senate chamber, and he will be 95 by the end of his current term. He has been in office for more than four decades. Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California had been the oldest lawmaker serving in the Senate until she passed away last year at age 90.

Last year, Grassley underwent hip surgery. “My hip surgery today to repair a fracture was very successful. On my way to a full recovery,” he noted in January 2023.
