Gavin Newsom trashes Elon Musk with brutal five-word putdown

California Gov. Gavin Newsom ripped into Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk, calling the tech entrepreneur “one of the great disappointments.”

Newsom — who credited Musk for his innovation in the electric-vehicle space — blamed the billionaire for allowing China to lap the US in the EV race.

“He’s going to allow I think one of the most significant own goals in the next decade [which] is ceding the EV space to China,” the governor said in an interview with Axios, noting that China covers 70% of the EV market.

“They’re flooding the zone all around the globe. … I really fear what’s going to happen to American legacy automobile manufacturers.”

Newsom also credited the Golden State and its embrace of electric vehicles for enriching Musk.

“It was regulation in California that created the conditions that allowed him to take the risk to become the multibillionaire, maybe trillionaire, that he’s become,” the governor said.

Newsom, who acknowledged that he was an early Tesla adopter, called Musk the “Edison of our time” before taking him to task over continued work in the EV space.

“Elon was the one accelerating that now he’s put the brakes on his own innovation in that space and now shifted to robotics, humanoids,” he continued.

The Trump administration has taken an anti-EV stance since President Donald Trump entered office last year, nixing a notable $7,500 electric vehicle tax credit.

Sales for his Tesla cars and other EVs as a whole have plummeted since the tax credit expired in October.

New electric vehicle sales are down 26.8% compared to last year, a Cox Automotive report said.

California is one of the most electric vehicle-friendly states, and Newsom said he hopes to reinstate his version of the $7,500 electric vehicle tax credit soon.
