Amy Robach ‘fought for love’ with TJ Holmes after ‘GMA’
Good morning america Suddenly he found himself immersed in a scandal. In November 2022, photos surfaced revealing that the co-stars Amy Robach and TJ Holmes They were in a relationship, while married to other people. After they were taken off the air, they both finalized their divorce from their respective spouses and moved forward with their romance.
Over the past few months, they’ve made it clear that they’re committed to each other, from officially posting Instagram as a couple on Nov. 1, running the New York Marathon together on Nov. 5, and making their red carpet debut filled with PDA at iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball on December 1st.
But more important news was yet to come. On December 5, a year to the day ABC suspended them from their jobs presenting the third hour of G.M.A. – the couple premiered their new joint podcast, “Amy & TJ,” and finally broke their silence about the beginnings of their romance, the firing, and their shared mental health crisis. It was, says Amy, 50, “a year from hell.” According to TJ, 46, who like Amy signed an exit deal with ABC in January: “We lost the jobs we loved because we loved each other.”
Both insist they were not unfaithful to their ex-spouses, who, in a wild twist, are now dating. “To be clear, we were caught as if we were in a relationship, but everyone else thought we were being caught as adulterers, being caught as cheating on our spouses, and that wasn’t the case,” TJ insists.
Dark days
He explains that when the first photos of him with Amy emerged in November 2022, “at the time we were both in the process of divorcing.” Amy claims that she and Melrose Place star Andres Shue56, had been separated for three months when her affair with TJ was publicly revealed (their divorce was finalized in spring 2023), and TJ insists she had been living apart from her lawyer. Marilee Fiebig46, as of summer 2022 (they resolved their divorce in December 2022).
The consequences of the accusations of infidelity and their dismissals were intense. “There were days when she wanted to die,” recalls Amy, a breast cancer survivor. “I just didn’t want to get up.” At one point, she feared that TJ, who admitted that during one particularly “dark” time she coped by “drinking vodka” and taking “who knows how many marijuana edibles,” was suicidal. “I was really afraid that he had done something,” she said, explaining how she ran to his apartment and found him incoherent “after she texted him in the past tense.”
Now, however, they are both in a better place, unapologetically and in it for the long haul. “Long story short… I’m in love with this woman and she’s in love with me and we’re planning a life together,” says TJ, who is “the happiest and healthiest” he’s ever been. Amy adds: “Relationships are difficult, confusing, not perfect. We have fought for love and I can say that I have never been happier. “I’m with my best friend.”
