Inmate escapes NYC hospital 24 hours after larceny bust: cops

A inmate escaped from a Brooklyn hospital and was still on the loose Thursday — just one day after he was busted on petit larceny and other charges, cops said.

Gilberto Sanchez, 50, was receiving treatment at the Brooklyn Hospital Center in Downtown Brooklyn around 2 p.m. Thursday when he ran off, police said.

Sanchez, who was nowhere to be found hours later, is described as around 5-foot-6 and weighing about 160 pounds, authorities said.

Sanchez was in custody for petit larceny and being treated at the hospital when he bolted, police said. Google Maps

He was last seen wearing black sweatpants, a white shirt, a blue and black jacket and yellow and black sneakers.

Sanchez was initially cuffed around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday for petit larceny, resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration, authorities said.

It was not immediately clear how he managed to make the escape, or why he required medical care.
