An arson-murder on the subway: Letters

The Issue: Sebastian Zapeta-Calil’s arrest for allegedly torching a sleeping straphanger to death.

Well, well, well — another illegal immigrant accused of committing murder (“ ‘Torched’ alive on F train,” Dec. 23). Yet no one takes responsibility on how he got here and the damage that has been done.

Will President Biden, Gov. Hochul, Vice President Kamala Harris and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas be charged as accomplices?

They have destroyed our country and many lives with their actions.

An innocent woman on a subway train was, for no explainable reason, set on fire. Fortunately, thanks to a quick response by the New York Police Department, her alleged killer was arrested. Unfortunately the woman died as a result of severe burns.

When will this madness of people being assaulted, injured and killed in the subway system end? Our dedicated NYPD is working hard to reduce crime in the subway system, but additional manpower is needed.

Mayor Adams continues to tout the fact that crime in the city has come down, but New Yorkers are not at all convinced that is the reality.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch is going to do a great job, and she fully backs her officers. But the City Council needs to throw its full support behind the commissioner and her officers.

Safe city streets and substantially reducing crime must be a priority as we begin 2025.

We all know the subway is a complete disaster and the MTA is one of the worst-run organizations in the city.

They waste $1 million to study why people jump the turnstiles. They just installed something on the ceiling in some stations to make them smell nice at a cost of $2,200 per unit.

I am fed up with agencies wasting our money when safety is not getting any better. In fact, it continues to deteriorate year after year.

Biden, Harris, Mayorkas, Gov. Hochul, District Attorney Alvin Bragg and Adams are all accomplices to the horrific murder of an innocent New York woman on the subway allegedly by a Guatemalan illegal.

Biden’s illegal migrants have caused so much pain and suffering to our citizens. And to think 75 million voters wanted more of this!

The people want law and order now. A Daniel Penny should be on every train only because police recruitment is at an all-time low and retirement at an all-time high. Shameful!

Gov. Hochul stated crime is down in the subways after a sleeping homeless woman was set on fire allegedly by a migrant who watched her burn.

Even though he was caught later in the day, people who ride are uneasy and rightfully so. As a retired transit worker, I wouldn’t want to ride either the bus or train because of crimes being committed by violent people.

Day or night, choosing to use the transit system is like taking a gamble to see whether one becomes a statistic of crime.

The grisly torching of an innocent woman on a New York City subway exemplifies the four years of horror directly linked to the Biden administration and the president’s atrocious border policy.

The arrival of a determined President-elect Donald Trump, no-nonsense border czar Tom Homan and NYPD Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch brings hope for the future as the year comes to a close.

This savage, unprovoked attack horrified fellow passengers, MTA workers and NYPD Commissioner Tisch, who noted that the crime “took the life of an innocent New Yorker.”

Where is the accountability for all of the violent crimes that have resulted from the inaction of the triumvirate of Biden, Harris and Mayorkas?

Their open-border policy has been a disaster for this nation’s sovereignty, security and pride, resulting in deaths like that of the woman on the subway.
