Barbie DreamHouse replica pops up in NYC through Dec. 14
C’mon, Barbie, let’s go party — at the Barbie StreamHouse.
This weekend is the last chance for New Yorkers to play pretend in a full-sized replica DreamHouse that is dripping in the Mattel doll’s favorite color: pink.
Powered by Verizon, the interactive Soho “Streamhouse” — a historic building reimagined with vibrant magenta exterior accents to mimic the doll-sized version — is equipped with a faux pool, just like the one in the “Barbie” blockbuster, and a closet where visitors can pose for a photo inside of an iconic Barbie box.
Dolled-up patrons can also play video games in the living room, decorate holiday cookies in the kitchen and visit a station to create their own Barbie-inspired phone case free of charge.
The life-sized dollhouse has already gone viral on social media since it opened on Dec. 12 on Lafayette Street.
“The holiday season is an incredibly special time for Verizon and our customers, and we wanted to do something big, entertaining, and first-of-its-kind,” the company’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer, Leslie Berland, said in a statement.
“With Barbie, we found the perfect partner to turn ‘dreamy’ into ‘streamy’ through a campaign sure to captivate and delight families and fans everywhere,” Berland added.
The pop-up, which is also promoting the telecom’s Barbie StreamHouse router, is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and does not require a ticket for entry, although visitors should expect a bit of a wait.
One TikTokker revealed that she waited 45 minutes in line before she could step into the pink oasis.
Lisa McKnight, the executive vice president and chief brand officer at Mattel, said in a statement that the goal was to “create something extraordinary” for Barbie fans of all generations.
“We can’t wait to host everyone and experience the world of Verizon and Barbie like never before,” added Berland.
