Britney Spears’ bizarre online behavior has sparked concerns for those close to the pop star and some professionals in the music industry don’t think she’ll be making a comeback anytime soon.
“Britney is now far more of a cultural icon of the 2000s than a singer — and I fear that the industry has changed so completely it will be hard to make a true comeback,” a source told Page Six in an article published on Sunday, December 8. “Everyone worries about her, people love her. A lot went on behind the scenes that the people with good intentions, who were trying to release her from her conservatorship, weren’t aware of — and I think it’s obvious she needs some serious professional help.”
Britney, 43, had fans raising their eyebrows when she shared a video where she didn’t seem to know her actual age.
“It’s my birthday, I’m not turning 42; I’m turning 5 this year, and I have to go to kindergarten tomorrow,” the Crossroads star said in a video shared to Instagram on December 8.
The singer also made multiple videos where she accused the paparazzi of making her look like she “was wearing a white Jason mask,” referring to the character from the Friday the 13th film franchise.
“It really kind of hurts my feelings that the paparazzi make my face look like I’m wearing, like, a white Jason mask, and it doesn’t even look like me,” Britney told the camera. “They’ve always been incredibly cruel to me, the paparazzi and pictures and the way they’ve illustrated me to be in some of it. I know I’m not perfect at all, by any means, but some of it is extremely mean and cruel, and that’s why I’ve moved to Mexico.”
The photos were taken as Brit jetted off to Cabo to celebrate her birthday. While a friend of hers told Page Six that the “Oops! I Did It Again” artist “didn’t actually move to Mexico” and was “just having fun,” Britney insisted otherwise.
“I’m so blessed !!! I’m house hunting and this place is insanely beautiful !!! Thank you Jesus for a place so far away from America !!!” she wrote via Instagram alongside a clip of herself dancing on December 5.
Britney’s divorce from Sam Asghari was finalized on December 2. The former couple was only married for 14 months before calling it quits. On August 16, 2023, a source exclusively told In Touch that Britney wanted “out of her marriage.”
“A divorce is in the works. Even though she’s pushed Sam to the brink with her erratic behavior, he would probably keep enduring it, but she’s adamant,” the insider said. “She’s accused him of everything from spying on her, secretly recording her, cheating on her, talking to her family behind her back and other horrible things. She now thinks that Sam was always using her, that she was his meal ticket and that he never truly loved her.”
Sam, 30, filed for divorce the same day and cited “irreconcilable differences” and listed their official date of separation as July 28, 2023.
